Men's Woodsmen Team Wins Title

The Alfred State men's woodsmen team took home the team title at the 70th Annual Northeast Conclave this weekend. The Pioneers hosted the event that featured competitors from thirteen different schools.

The Pioneers scored 1,670.8 points in the competition to finish ahead of Paul Smith's College (1,627.7), and Unity College (1,507.3). Alfred State's 2nd men's team finished 7th in the competition with 1,277.4 points. In total 16 different teams competed in the field.

The winning men's team of Sutton Carhart (LeRoy), Dan Ognibene (Alexander), Dan Christoffersen (Chenango Valley), Max Laramie (Adirondack), Gavin Maloney (Rome Free Academy), and Josh Cook (East Syracuse Minoa) turned in the winning performances in birling, hard hit, team cross cut, team bow saw, singles canoeing, and doubles canoeing. The team was 2nd in single buck, super swede, quarter split, horizontal chop, log roll, pulp toss, and portage.

The Pioneers 2nd men's team of John Peters (Liberty), Josh Lippert (Allegany Limestone), Kevin Koerner (Lancaster), Alex Crowell, Mitch Gerard (Whitney Point), and Andy Ellis (Fredonia) finished 2nd in the vertical chop, 3rd in the fire build, and 4th in packboard and singles canoeing.

The Alfred State Jack & Jill team finished 2nd out of 15 teams with 1,498.7 points. Paul Smith's won the Jack & Jill title with 1,636.5 points.

The Jack & Jill team of Frank Kowalski (Elba), Benjermin Wood (Watkins Glen), Kara Stone (Frontier), Zach Herrington (Horseheads), Crystal Kopec (Dundee), and Francesca Mastrobattisto (East Syracuse Minoa) won the competition in stock saw, birling, cross cut to hell, pulp toss, and singles canoeing and finished 2nd in super swede, fire build, cross cut, and log roll.

Colby College took home the women's team title with 1,647.99 points.

Events took place Friday and Saturday on the Alfred State intramural field and at Lake Lodge. The event was capped off by the exciting Stihl Collegiate Challenge.
