Smith Led Team Wins Golf Tournament
Captain Steve Smith and his foursome took home the championships at the 2nd annual Alfred State Drive for the Development Fund Golf Tournament held June 17th at Twin Hickory Golf Club in Hornell.
Smith, a former Pioneer baseball player and a member of the athletic department staff the past two years, teamed with Mike Smith, Charise Nankivell, and Kevin Mazanerak to shoot a -14 to claim the coveted blue jacket. Mike Smith and Nankivell are also Alfred State alums. Nankivell was a two-year member of the softball team.
Troy Morehouse, the Alfred State Coordinator for College Housing, and his team finished 2nd while the Steuben Trust Company team finished 3rd.
The event featured 32 teams and was played with a captain and crew format. Proceeds of the tournament go into the development fund which provides scholarships, supports amazing projects, enables students to compete in prestigious collegiate competitions, helps Alfred State offer civic engagement opportunities, and supports the college's 18 intercollegiate athletic teams.
