Cross Country: Men 13th, Women 16th at Roberts

The men's cross country team finished 13th out of 22 teams while the women finished 16th out of 21 teams as the Harry Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan. 

Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was the top Pioneer finisher in the 8k. He crossed the finish line in 70th place finishing in 28:11.9. Austin Demberg (Minisink Valley) was 98th (28:58.1), Jesse Hallett (Honeoye) was 111th (29:22.1), and Joseph Kretschmar (Phoenix, AZ) was 112th (29:23.7). Oswego State won the men's team title with 84 points. Alfred State scored 394 and averaged 29:07. 213 racers competed in the event.

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the Lady Pioneers with a 62nd place finish on the 5k course. She crossed the finish line in 20:22.1. Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 121st (21:37.9), Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 131st (21:51.5) and Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) was 175th (23:47.1). Cortland won the women's team title with a score of 67. The Lady Pioneers scored 483. 223 total runners competed in the race.

Football: 0-4

The football team was held to just 43 yards as they fell 35-0 at Husson University on Saturday. The Eagles used a balanced attack to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Husson rushed for 261 yards on 55 carries and passed for 236 yards as they defeated the Pioneers. The Eagles scored a pair of touchdowns in the 1st and 2nd quarter to take a 28-0 lead into half. They added another score late in the 3rd quarter to cap the scoring.

Josh Ashley (Brooklyn/Grand Street) gained 22 yards receiving while Dashown Wilson (Bronx/DeWitt Clinton) rushed for 20 yards on four carries. Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ) and Brandon Davis (Lansing) both recorded 13 tackles on the day while Michael Zimmerman (Canandaigua) chipped in 10.

Men's Soccer: 3-4

The men's soccer team split a pair of home matches this past week. The lost a tough 2-1 battle to Buffalo State and then defeated SUNY Canton 6-1.

Versus Buff State, the Pioneers fell behind 2-0 but Kory Zimmer (Livonia) scored to cut the lead. The Pioneers had chances to tie but were unable to. Jacob Barts (West Seneca) made three saves.

Brandon Holley (Livonia) recorded a hat trick and Albert Senyah Breezy (Central Islip) scored twice as the Pioneers defeated SUNY Canton on Saturday. Jake Vattimo (Geneseo) also scored. Bartz earned the win with three saves in the first 72 minutes.

Tyler Landries (Genesee Valley) picked up an assist in each game.

Women's Soccer: 5-4 

The Lady Pioneers were dominant this weekend as they defeated SUNY Canton 5-0 and Penn State Beaver 6-0. On the week, Alfred State outshot their opponents 84 to 4.

Five different Lady Pioneers, Julia Yanarella (Roy Ketcham), Dannielle O'Buckley (Queens/Ansbach), Brooke Geibel (Arkport), Melissa Mineti (Livonia), and Karley Trotta (Plainedge) scored in the victory over Canton. Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) passed out two assists and Allison Danielak (Brockport) made a save in the shutout.

Geibel scored four times and had an assist in the win over Beaver. Jessica Rowe (Jasper Troupsburg) had a goal and an assist while Minetti found the back of net. Darien Hooker (Canisteo Greenwood) had two assists.

Volleyball: 9-0

The volleyball team swept Hilbert 25-15, 25-14, 25-22 on Wednesday evening in their only action of the week.

Jessica Padley (Buffalo/Sweet Home) led the Lady Pioneers with 11 kills (only one error). Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) finished with eight kills and six digs, Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 25 assists, and seven digs, and Madison Webster (Corning) led the team with 12 digs.

The Lady Pioneers are now 9-0, have won five straight matches 3-0, and have won 27 of the 30 games they have played in 2016.
