Cross Country:

The cross country team had the week off but returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Houghton.

Football: 0-5

The Alfred State football team had a strong 2nd half but were unable to overcome a slow start in a 24-8 home loss to the Apprentice School on Saturday afternoon.

The Builders scored all their points in the 1st half. Ethan Bryce scored on their opening drive on a five-yard run and then scored again three-yard run after the Pioneers fumbled the kickoff. Apprentice added to their lead with another TD drive late in the 2nd quarter and a last second field goal.

Alfred State scored the lone points of the 2nd half early in the 4th quarter when Dashon Turner (West Genesee) connected with Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) on a 20-yard scoring pass to cap a 98-yard drive. The duo connected again to convert the two-point conversion. The Pioneers put together another long drive that took them inside the red zone but the blue & gold were unable to add any more points to cut into the lead.

Turner finished 14 for 25 for 185 yards for the Pioneers. Jordan had four catches for 95 yards while Khris Greggs(Rochester/Aquinas) had 46 yards receiving on five catches and 28 yards rushing.

Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ) and Brandon Davis (Lansing) continued to lead the Pioneer defense. Hubick had 16 tackles (seven solo) while Davis had 15 and recovered a fumble. 

Men's Soccer: 4-5

The Pioneers split a pair of home matches this week. They defeated Pitt Bradford 2-1 on Wednesday but fell 3-1 to Bryant & Stratton, the #3 ranked team in the USCAA.

Brian Markel (Arkport) and Jake Vattimo (Geneseo) scored in the victory over Pitt Bradford. Vattimo's goal a header after a corner kick by Albert Senyah Breezy (Central Islip) broke the tie in the 71st minute. Jacob Bartz (West Seneca) made five saves to earn the victory.

Brandon Holley (Livonia) scored the lone goal in a spirited battle with Bryant & Stratton. Cooper Weinman (Genesee Valley) picked up the assist. The goal changed momentum and led to numerous scoring opportunities but the blue & gold couldn't get any more in the back of the net.

Women's Soccer: 5-5, ranked #10 in USCAA poll 

The Lady Pioneers lost a hard fought 2-1 battle with Bryant & Stratton on Saturday. Stormi Kruger (Medina) scored the lone goal to give the blue & gold the early lead. The Bobcats answered with two of their own later in the 1st half. Alfred State had numerous chances to tie the game up but could not get the equalizer. Allison Danielak (Brockport) made three saves in net.

Volleyball: 12-0, ranked #4 in USCAA Poll

The winning streak reached twelve games as the Lady Spikers won all three of their matches at the Ramapo (NJ) Tournament. The blue & gold defeated St. Joseph's (LI) 3-0, Brooklyn 3-0, and Neumann 3-1.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) continued to play exceptional. She led the team with 34 kills (.298 hitting percentage). She also added nine aces and 23 digs. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 91 assists, Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) had 21 kills, and Grace Hall (Ellicottville) had 19 kills and seven blocks. Madison Webster (Corning) led the team with 46 digs.

The Lady Pioneers connected on 113 kills this week and recorded a .221 hitting percentage. The team also excelled with their service game recording 39 aces on the weekend.
