10 With Des - Lindsey Thiel

Athletic department intern and senior football player Desmond Radcliffe sits down with Lindsey Thiel in the latest edition of 10 with Des. Thiel, a junior member of the cross country and track & field team, has been the top finisher in all of the Lady Pioneers races this fall.

What influenced you to come to Alfred State to run? I decided to come to Alfred before I decided I wanted to run here, but after deciding to come here I contacted Coach Moore because I like to run and from there Coach Moore really influenced me to be a part of the team.

At what age did you start running? I started running when I was seven years old.

Describe your offseason and in-season training? What differences in training are there between cross country & track & field?  During season our training includes a lot of long runs and about once a week we have a track workout but because I run year round there really isn't an off season. I run long distance in track (5k, 10K) so my training for cross country and track is mainly the same.

What are your goals as you head to the final races of the cross country season? My goals for the final races of the season are to keep improving my times and hopefully maybe finish top ten in both races.

What do you do to get yourself prepared to run before each meet? In order to prepare for the race each meet, we run a mile or so warm up, do some drills, stretching, and I think about my race plan and really focus on the goals of that race.

What do you think about when you are racing? When I'm racing I think about the plan Coach Ball and I come up with before the race: what times I should be hitting every mile, how many people I should be passing, where I should be sitting during the race, and ultimately where I should be finishing.

What are your future plans after your collegiate career is completed? My future plans after college are to get a job, live somewhere cool, and to keep running.

If you could have any super power what would it be? My super power would of course have to be super speed.

If you could go on a run with three other people (living or dead) who would you choose? Why? I can't choose three people to go on a run with, it's too difficult a decision.

What is your favorite part of being part of the Alfred State athletic program?  My favorite part about being a part of the athletic program here is the people, I love all the friendships that are made through this program.
