10 With Des - Marquis Edwards

Athletic department intern  Desmond Radcliffe sits down with Marquis Edwards  in the latest edition of 10 with Des. Edwards is a senior basketball player from Queens. He is currently averaging 13 points per game and 2.6 assists.
What are your goals (personal and team) for this season?  My personal goals for this season would be to lead my team to the best of my ability on and off the court.  My team goal would be to strive for a championship and remaining hungry and humble.
What did you focus on in the offseason as you prepared for the upcoming season? My focus in the offseason was mainly getting stronger and increasing my stamina to prepare for our up-tempo style of play.

What was your favorite moment from last season? My favorite moment from last season would be going 6-7 from the three-point line against SUNY Poly on my birthday with my mother and grandma in the stands.

If you could change one thing that happened in your athletic career what would it be? I wouldn't change anything; I believe everything happens for a reason.

At what age did you first pick up a basketball and what influenced you to? At around the age of 3, I picked up a basketball and was actually able to bounce the ball with one hand.  My older brother, who is eight years older than me, played basketball and I just wanted to do anything he did and from that point on I've been playing basketball ever since.

What are your future plans after your collegiate career is completed? After my collegiate career is completed and my degree is obtained I want to pursue a professional basketball career overseas but if that doesn't work out I would like to be a guidance counselor/ basketball coach in a high school preferably.

What is your favorite part of being an Alfred State athlete? Just being able to have to the opportunity to play basketball at the collegiate level, but I also like the recognition I receive while walking around campus.

If you could pick any NBA coach to play for who would you choose and why? I would choose to play for Phil Jackson because he understands the game so well and his coaching strategies and philosophy are amazing. Another reason would be his on the court relationship with his players.

Who would be your all time starting five? Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O'Neal 

Who is your favorite athlete and your favorite team? My favorite athlete would be Kemba Walker, a small guard from the Bronx NY with a heart bigger than his body and my favorite team would be the Cleveland Cavaliers.
