Cross Country: Men & Women 2nd at Bruce Bridgemen Invitational at Finger Lakes CC

The cross country team had a strong showing at the Bruce Bridgemen Invitational at Finger Lakes CC on Saturday afternoon. Both the men's and women's team earned 2nd place finishes.

The men's team scored a 47 and finished only behind NCAA DII LeMoyne who won the meet with a near perfect score of 18. Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) and Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen) led the charge for the men. Hanss was 5th overall in the 8k race in 28:54.87 while Rutledge was 6th (29:47.75).

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the women's team with a 6th place finish on the 5k course. She crossed the finish line in 21:13.07. Olivia Leonti (Port Byron) was 9th (22:07.78) and Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 19th (24:52.17). The Lady Pioneers scored a 55. LeMoyne won with a score of 18. 

Football: 0-2

The Hartwick Hawks got contributions from both sides of the ball as they defeated Alfred State 45-0 in the Pioneers home opener.

Billy Pine threw four touchdown passes to Brad Garcia in the first half (23, 37, 20, 15) as the Hawks raced to a 35-0 halftime lead. Pine finished  3 for 21 for 247 yards while Garcia caught six passes for 129 yards Mark Hackett intercepted two passes and recorded five tackles. Hartwick outgained the Pioneers 567 to 77.

The Hawks defense accounted for the first points of the contest as Mark Hackett intercepted a pass seven minutes into the game and returned it 13-yards for the score. The interception was the first of two on the night for Hackett.

 

Brandon Davis (Lansing) led the Alfred State defense with 11 tackles while Austin Parker (Port Byron) finished with nine.

Men's Soccer: 1-3

The Pioneers lost both of their matches at the Fredonia Blue Devil Classic. They fell 5-0 to Fredonia on Friday and 6-1 to Buffalo State on Saturday.

Ade Adesanya (Brooklyn/Progress) scored in the lone goal of the weekend, his first of the season.

Women's Soccer: 2-1

The Lady Pioneers lost a hard fought battle to University of Rochester 2-1 in their lone action of the week. 

Michayla Salatel (Geneseo) scored 10:58 into the contest to give the Pioneers an early lead but the Yellowjackets answered back with a pair of goals in the final 15 minutes of the 1st half. Both teams had chances to score the rest of the way but neither could find the back of the net. The Yellowjackets held a 19 to 8 shot advantage in the contest. Allison Danielak (Brockport) made fives saves in net for the Pioneers.

Volleyball 2-4

The Lady Spikers were 2-1 this weekend at the Elmira Quad Match. They defeated Cazenovia 25-20, 25-16, 25-14, fell 22-25, 20-25, 14-25 vs. Elmira, and defeated SUNY Delhi 25-6, 25-17, 20-25, 25-12.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had a big weekend finishing with 28 kills and a .354 hitting percentage. Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) collected 31 kills, 19 digs, and seven service aces, Madison Webster (Corning) collected 40 digs and eight aces, and Sarah Raichlin (Chenango Valley) passed out 53 assists. Morgan Hungerford (Lyndonville) chipped in 19 kills and seven aces and Samantha Tumolo (Manorville/Eastport South Manor) passed out 36 assists and led the team with 10 aces.

Garcia's Top Cut Player of the Week: Jacob Hanss (Cross Country)
