Lindsey Thiel, Ryan Johnson, and Shawn Rutledge named Athletes of the Week

Trio of Pioneers Honored by ACAA

For the second week in a row a trio of Alfred State athletes have been honored with Player of the Week honors by the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA). Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) was named the female cross country athlete of the week, Ryan Johnson (Sodus) was named the men's soccer offensive player of the week, and Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen) was named the male cross country athlete of the week.

Thiel shaved off nearly a minute from her fastest time of the season in 5k competition on Saturday when she ran Harry Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan in 20:24.1. Her time was good enough for a 34th place and helped the Pioneers to a 12th place team finish.

Johnson scored a pair of goals in the Pioneers 5-1 victory over Penn State Beaver on Sunday afternoon. Johnson's two goals, both on penalty kicks, put the game out of reach in the 2nd half. Johnson is now tied for the team lead with three goals on the year.

Rutledge has improved his time at the 8k distance by 1:48 over the past three races. He finished 26th overall, second Alfred State runner to finish, with a time of 27:59.1 this weekend at Roberts Wesleyan. He helped the team to a 6th place finish out of 19 total teams and a 3rd place finish among the 10 NCAA DIII schools competing.

Last week, Bryanna Godfrey (volleyball), Brandon Holley (men's soccer), and Jacob Hanss were honored by the ACAA.
