Team Updates

Cross Country:

The cross country spent the week preparing for the ACAA Championships this weekend at SUNY Delhi. The women's race starts at 11 a.m. with the men following at Noon.

Football: 0-7

The football team trailed by 23 points, 30-7, with just under six minutes left in the 3rd quarter before they put together a furious rally that fell just short as the team fell 36-34 at Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers would start their rally with 5:44 left in the 3rd quarter.  On that drive Hunter Evingham (Bolivar Richburg-Undeclared) connected with Willerm Greffin (Brooklyn/South Shore-Sport Management) on a 25-yard scoring play. Less than two minutes later Kiegan Brown (Cortland-Cyber Security) scored from eight yards out to cut the lead to 30-20.

Anna Maria scored on their next possession to bump the lead to 36-20 with 10:26 remaining in the game. The Pioneers stalled after 14-play drive but they got the ball right back three plays later when Jamal Little (Brooklyn/Thomas Jefferson-Business Administration) intercepted a pass and returned it to the AMCAT 32. Three plays later, Brown rushed in from 10-yards out for his third rushing score of the day. The two point attempt was good when Evingham connected with Reice Woodward (Oakfield Alabama-Criminal Justice) to make it 36-28.

Zack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie/F.D. Roosevelt-Architecture) recovered his own on-side kick to give the Pioneers hope to complete the comeback. Eight plays later, Evingham connected with Jalen Long (Rochester/Bishop Kearney-Sport Management) on a 25-yard scoring pass to make it 36-34. Anna Maria made a defensive stand on the two-point conversion and then recovered the on-side kick to hold on for the victory.

Brown had a career day finishing with 235 yards and three scores on 36 carries. Evingham was 18 for 34 for 265 yards with Woodward tallying 93 yards on six catches and Long making four catches for 78 yards.

Brandon Davis (Lansing-Electrical Construction and Maintenance Electrician) led the Pioneers with seven tackles while John Lauretti (Seaford-Tech Management) made six tackles (two for a loss).

The Pioneers outgained the AMCATS 518 to 320 (95 offensive plays to 41) and had the ball for 41:02 of the contest. The team was 10 for 22 on 3rd down but was slowed down by 12 penalties for 138 yards.

Men's Soccer: 2-11-1

The blue & gold fell in both of their matches this season. They fell 4-0 in their home finale vs. Houghton and lost a hard fought 2-1 contest at SUNY Canton.

Kory Zimmer (Livonia-Business) scored the lone goal of the week, his third of the season, vs. Canton. The Pioneers turned up the pressure on the Roos in the 2nd half, outshooting their opponent 11 to 2, but could not get the equalizer.

Vinny Biancuzzo (Genesee Valley-Business) made fives saves in net this week in just over 97 minutes of action.

Women's Soccer: 9-3

The Pioneers continued to add to their shutout streak as they earned a pair of victories this week. They defeated Medaille 3-0 on Thursday and then bested SUNY Canton 1-0 on Saturday.
