Team Updates

Baseball: 10-18, 5-3 AMCC

The Pioneers were 2-3 this past week and 2-2 in AMCC action. They won a dramatic 5-4 game over D'Youville and then completed the sweep with a 6-3 victory. Versus Keuka they lost a 10-9 extra inning decision before falling in both games at Penn State Behrend, 7-0 and 12-4, on Friday.

David Zuber (Honeoye Falls Lima) led the Pioneer regulars with a .350 batting average this week (7 for 20). He collected two doubles, a triple, a homer, and 6 RBI. Danny Doran (Irondequoit) hit a two-out game-tying two-run homer to send game one vs. D'Youville into extra innings while Ryan Santiago (Staten Island/HS of Telecommunications) won the game with a squeeze bunt single in the 11th.

Garrect Mack (Avon) tossed five solid innings of two-hit ball to earn a victory this week while Jake Miller (Bethlehem, PA) tossed four innings of relief, allowing just two hits and one run, to earn the other victory.

Lacrosse: 5-7, 3-0 AMCC

The lacrosse team was 1-2 this past week. They came from behind to defeat Hiram 7-6 but was tripped up in both games of the Hampton Inn Classic at Dean over the weekend, 7-5 vs. SUNY Delhi and 12-5 vs. Dean.

Trailing 6-3 heading into the final quarter vs. Hiram the Pioneers scored four unanswered to rally for the victory. Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored his 4th goal of the game with 2:02 remaining to give the Pioneers the lead for good. 

The Pioneers could never fully recover from a slow start vs. Delhi. Johnson once again found the back four times. Versus Dean, Dominic Arresta (Southampton) recorded a hat trick but the Bulldogs put together strong 2nd and 3rd quarters in the victory.

Joe Johnson (Churchville) had nine of the Pioneers 17 goals this week. AJ Soto (Churchville) had three goals and two assists, Nathan Crowley (Irondequoit) had two assists and 18 ground balls, and Matt Cobb (Churchville) made 28 saves in net.

Softball: 0-19

The softball team was able to get on the field for three doubleheaders this week. They fell 11-1 and 8-0 at Keuka, 19-2 and 9-0 at D'Youville, and 10-5 and 9-6 as they played at home vs. Cazenovia.

Jamie Parente (Mt. Sinai) led the team with a .438 (7 for 16) batting average this week. She scored four runs and drove in one. Betsy Butlak (Angola/Lake Shore) hit .333 with a team high 3 RBI.

Track & Field:

Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) highlighted a solid showing for the track & field team at the Cortland Please Stop Snowing Challenge on Friday. The men's team finished 4th in the team's standings while the women were 8th. 

Kemsley led the way for the field athletes by winning a pair of events. He set a new school record in winning the hammer throw with a toss of 48.93 m. He also won the discus after recording a throw of 48.26. Anders Presthus (Lansing) won the shot put (13.52 m), was 2nd in the discus (42.07 m), was 3rd in the hammer (44.60 m), and was 4th in the javelin (40.44 m). Dylan Perlino (Holland) was 4th in the hammer throw (42.44 m) and 8th in the shot (11.66 m). Bryce Chapman (Geneseo) recorded an 8th place finish in the javelin (34.65 m). Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 3rd in the pole vault (3.71 m) and 4th in the high jump (1.69 m). Joe Richardson (Geneva) was 4th in the high jump (1.69 m), 7th in the triple jump (11.98 m), and 8th in the long jump (6.03 m). Nickolas Brown (Wellsville) was 3rd in the high jump (1.74 m) while Isiah Richardson (Geneva) was 6th in the long jump (6.07 m) and 6th in the triple jump (11.98 m). On the track, Caleb Boyce-Wright (Cheektowaga/John Kennedy) was 6th in the 800 (2:07.27), Ryan MacDonald (Johnson City) was the 7th in the 400 hurdles (1:13.39), and Chadwick Ekeigwe (Spring Valley/Ramapo) was 9th in the 400 (52.94).

On the women's side, Chloe Cox (Tucson, AZ) was 6th in the javelin and jumped into the all-time top list with a throw of 23.72 m. Hannah Sanyczuk (Machias/Pioneer) was 4th in the shot put (10.14 m) and 6th in the discus (29.76 m). Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 4th in the 100 hurdles (18.28) while Holly Fiore(Niagara Falls) was 6th (19.33). Brigman was also 7th in the high jump (1.42 m). The 4x100 relay team of Sophie Gonzalez (Bronx/Kings Park), Shannon Shirley, Dominique Shirley, and Alexis Carrington(Manhattan/NYC iSchool) was 5th in 53.14. Gonzalez was also 6th in the 100 m (13.26)

The men's team scored 88.83 points to earn 4th place while the women scored 27.5 points.
