Team Updates
Baseball: 12-24, 7-11 AMCC
The blue & gold was 1-3 this past week as they closed out AMCC play. They split a doubleheader with Medaille (L 4-3 & W 5-2) and then lost two tight contests to #18 LaRoche (L 2-1 & L 5-0).
Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) led the team with a .400 batting average (6 for 15) while Dan Woodward hit .313 (5 for 16). Pingitore and Josh Laurie (LeRoy) led the two with a pair of RBI.
Matt Isham (Maine Endwell) earned the lone victory of the week while Jake Miller (Bethlehem, PA) earned the save. Connor Hong (Gates Chili) allowed only three hits and one run in 5.2 innings of work. Angel Victorino (Inwood/Harvest Collegiate) also had a solid start with five innings of three hit ball. He walked three and struck out eight.
Lacrosse: 6-8, 3-0 AMCC
Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) recorded eight points as the Pioneers downed Houghton 16-13 in their lone game of the week. The Pioneers contest vs. LaRoche on Saturday was cancelled and will not be made up.
The Pioneers led 6-4 after the 1st quarter, 10-7 at half, and 13-9 after three quarters.
Alvarado finished with a season high eight points (six goals and and two assists) while Branden Dickson (Bath) passed out five assists. Joe Johnson (Churchville) scored two goals and had two assists, Nathan Crowley (Irondequoit) had a hat trick and a team high 12 ground balls. Ian Grana (Greece Odyssey) had two goals and an assist, Dominic Arresta (Southampton) had a goal and an assist, and Matt Cobb (Churchville) made 13 saves in net.
Softball: 0-25
The Pioneers wrapped up the season this past week. They fell 9-1 and 8-0 at Houghton and 8-0 and 10-0 at Elmira. A weekend four-game series at SUNY Canton was rained out.
Ashley Peterson (Maybrook/Valley Central) led the team with a .500 batting average (4 for 8) while Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) hit .364 (4 for 11).
Track & Field:
The Pioneers wrapped up a busy stretch with a pair of competitions.
At the Gina Relays at Hillsdale, Tim Berry (Midlakes) led the way for the men in the decathlon by finishing 2nd. He scored 4,834 points which is now 10th best in school history. Berry scored his most points in the pole vault with a leap of 3.90 m (590 points). He scored 516 in the 100 m dash (12.72) and 512 points in the long jump (5.65 m.) Joe Richardson (Geneva) was 3rd with 4,654 points while Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 5th with 4,378 points.
On the women's side Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) was 6th in the heptathlon with 3,154 points. Her point total is 4th best in school history. Marissa Sly (N. Tonawanda) was 7th overall with 2,358 points.
At the Cardinal Classic, the 4x800 relay led the way by qualifying for the ECAC Championships. The team of Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley), Michael Girard (Phoenix), Cooper Buckley, and Caleb Boyce-Wright (Cheektowaga/John Kennedy) finished 3rd overall in 8:36.74. Isiah Richardson (Geneva) qualified for the ECAC's in two events. He was 5th in the discus (37.80 m) and 7th in the long jump (6.37 m). In throwing events, Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) won the discus with a toss of 47.07 m and was 3rd in the shot put (14.22 m), Anders Presthus (Lansing) was 4th in the javelin (39.74 m), and Dylan Perlino (Holland) was 7th in the hammer throw (43.44 m)
On the women's side, Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 3rd in the steeplechase (13:34.10) and Fiore was 5th in the javelin (29.05 m).
