Men's Basketball: 5-4
The men's basketball team was 2-1 this week. They couldn't come all the way back and fell 98-93 at Buffalo State but earned a pair of impressive wins in NYC, 78-67 over NYU and 88-79 over Medgar Evers.
Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) had a monster game with 26 points and 13 rebounds vs. Medgar Evers and led the team with 17 points per game this week. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo) averaged 15 ppg and passed out 11 assists, Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Owen Spencer (Perry) had 13 points per game and passed out a team high 15 assists.
The Pioneers shot 49.5% from the field for the week and 78.7% from the foul line. They also held a nine rebound advantage (115 to 106) on the week.
Women's Basketball: 3-6
The Pioneers were plagued by slow starts as they were 0-3 this past week. They fell 79-49 at Buffalo State, 58-43 vs. St. John Fisher, and 71-52 at Utica.
Emily Kelley (Wellsville) led the team with 9.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game this week. Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) scored 27 points while Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) added 25. Janae Gibson (Bronx/Pelham Prep) averaged 7.3 points and 9.7 rebounds.
Men's Swimming & Diving: 1-4, 1-1 AMCC
The men's swimming team battled tough vs. Cabrini on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers fell just short as they fell to the Cavaliers 153-107.
Ethan Dale (Lock Haven) led the way for the Pioneers. He won the 100 breast (1:04.93) and the 200 breast (2:24.13). He was also 2nd in the 400 IM (4:38.86).
Tim Olin (Perry) won the 100 back (58.80) and was 2nd in the 50 free (23.40) while Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chil) was 2nd in the 1,000 free (11:18.16) and 2nd in the 500 free (5:32.05). Nate Miller (Gananda) was 2nd in the 100 free (53.83) and Ryan McDowell (Gananda) was 2nd in the 100 fly (59.64). The 200 medley relay team of Olin, Dale, Miller, and Ryan Brophy (Midlakes) was 2nd in 1:45.85) while the 400 free relay team of Eckrich, Brophy, Anthony Kahwaty (Jefferson Township, NJ), and Aaron Priel (Pioneer) was 2nd in 3:45.39.
Women's Swimming & Diving: Women 3-2, 2-0 AMCC
Jessie LaRue (Livonia) continued to impress as Alfred State battled tough vs. Cabrini on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers were able to pull out the tight 142-120 victory.
LaRue won the 100 back and set a new school record in 1:04.56. She also won the 50 free (25.94) and the 200 back (2:21.16). LaRue was also part of the winning 400 free relay. She teamed with Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield), Elizabeth Drake (Lansing), and Payton Armstrong (Monroe Woodbury) to swim a time of 3:58.89. Lewis also won the 200 free (2:09.05) and was 2nd in the 100 free (59.25). Alina Kisluk (Hamburg) was 2nd in the 1,000 free (12:32.84) while Hannah Snayczuk (Pioneer) was 2nd in the 100 breast 1:19.18).
Almeter earned a 17-0 tech fall vs. Draven Douglas to start the day and then earned a 13-6 decision over Sergio Crespo (Niagara CCC) to advance to the semifinals. He made it to the finals following a 14-5 major decision over Camden Johnson (Spartanburg) but fell in the finals to Cameron Page to end the day with a 3-1 mark.
Devin Horton (Apalachian/Owego Free) was 4-1 on the day to earn 3rd place in the 165 lb. weight class. After falling in his first match, Horton rallied to win four straight. He defeated Zach Mcintyre (St. Clair CC) 7-6, downed Caleb Reid (Spartanburg) 3-1, and then earned a 11-3 major decision over Mike Schneider (Camden CC) to advance to the 3rd place match. He earned 3rd with a 5-4 win over JD Harrelson (Spartanburg). Kyle Fitzgerald (Turin/South Lewis) and Aaron Paddock (Warsaw) both placed in the heavyweight bracket. Fitzgerald 5-1 on the day while Paddock was 5-2. At 141 lbs., Yameek Kendrick (Lisle/Whitney Point) 2-3 with a pin to earn 6th place,
On Friday night, the Pioneers split a pair of dual matches. They fell to Jamestown CC and then defeated Mercyhurst North East.
