Brigman, LaRue, and Mattison Named Athletes of the Week

The trio of Emily Brigman (Lancaster), Jessie LaRue (Livonia), and Ryan Mattison (Brockport) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week.

Brigman was the top female finisher in the Mike Kowal Multi at Edinboro on Saturday. She finished 3rd overall with 2,449 points in the pentathlon. She scored 725 points in breaking the school record in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.93. she scored 512 points in the high jump with a leap of 1.40 m, and 479 points in the 800 with a run of 2:48.48.

LaRue had a big weekend at the Frednonia Invitational. She was 3rd in the 200 back (2:14.60), 4th in the 200 IM (2:20.12), and was 4th in the 100 back (1:03.64). She set new school records in the 200 free, the 100 back, the 50 free, the 200 back, and the 100 free. She was also part of the 3rd place 800 free relay team, the 5th place 200 medley relay team, the 5th place 200 free relay team, and the 5th place 400 free relay team. As a team the Pioneers finished 4th in the three-day event.

Mattison was one of two Pioneers that claimed individual titles at the Pioneer Open. He won the 13-athlete heavyweight bracket with a perfect 4-0 day with four pins. Mattison pinned Garrett Smead in 35 seconds to open the day. He then pinned Tyler Vido in 4:52 to advance to the semifinals. In the semis he pinned Anthony Robinson in 2:43 to advance to the finals vs. his teammate Aaron Paddock. In the finals, Mattison was able to pin Paddock for the title.
