Men's Basketball: 9-9

The Pioneers split a pair of games this week. They defeated D'Youville 79-76 at home but couldn't keep the early momentum going in a 79-66 loss at Morrisville.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) led the team with 37 points and 28 rebounds while Josh Reding (Spencerport) connected on seven 3-pointers and scored 27 points and passed out eight assists this week. Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) was also key this week as he netted 26 points (five 3-pointers). Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) had a big contest vs. D'Youville as he scored 13 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and passed out six assists. 

Women's Basketball: 3-15

Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) averaged 21 points in a pair of games this past week as the Pioneers fell 83-81 at Central Penn and 83-60 vs. Maine Fort Kent.

Shaulis shot 57.6% for the week and was credited with six steals, five rebounds, and four assists. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) continued her solid play with 33 points while Sklyar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) scored 27 points and grabbed 11 boards. Emily Kelley (Andover) added 23 points and 17 rebounds this week.

Men's Swimming & Diving: 1st place Pioneer Invitational

The men's swimming and diving team claimed the title in their home invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers won eight events and scored 505 points in the event.

Tim Olin (Perry) led the way by winning three individual events. He won the 100 back in 58.65, the 50 free in 23.23, and the 200 back in 2:14.33. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team with Olin, Nate Miller (Gananda), Ethan Dale (Lock Haven), and Anthony Kahwaty (Jefferson Township, NJ) that finished 2nd (1:47.56) and the 200 free relay team of Ryan McDowell (Gananda), Miller and Ryan Brophy (Midlakes) that was also 2nd (1:35.30.

Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chili) won the 1650 free in 19:17.36, Kahwaty won the 100 breast, and McDowell won the 100 fly in 59.65.

In the diving competition, Austin Miller (Hornell) took both the 1m (351.40) and the 3m (392.05) while Jackson Teboe (Falconer) was 2nd in each (291.45 in 1m and 310.50 in 3m).

At the Ithaca Diving Invitational on Sunday, Miller was 3rd out of eight on the 3m board. He scored 411.30. This came after finishing 6th in the 1m competition where he scored 354.30 points in the 11-dive format. 

Women's Swimming & Diving: 1st place Pioneer Invitational

The women's swimming & diving team won 15 of 16 events as they rolled to the title at the 2019 Pioneer Invitational. The Pioneers scored 631 points on the day.

Jessie LaRue (Livonia) and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) both won three individual events. LaRue won the 100 back in 1:04.80, the 50 free in 25.98, and the 200 back in 2:22.86 while Stevens won the 200 breast in 2:54.51 and swept a pair of diving events by winning the 1m with 304.50 points and the 3m with 282.65 points.

Kathryn Lewis (Niagara Wheatfield) won the 1650 free in 20:09.57 and the 500 free in 5:44.39 while Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) won the 200 fly in 2:54.73 and the 100 fly in 1:11.90. Elizabeth Drake (Lansing) won the 200 free in 2:14.14, Hannah Snayczuk (Pioneer) won the 100 breast in 1:20.40, and Elizabeth Jurs (Elba) won the 400 IM in 5:47.86

The 200 medley relay team of LaRue, Lewis, Stevens, and Drake won in 2:04.79 while the 200 free relay team of Drake, Megan Hendershot (Brockport), Stevens, and Jurs won in 1:56.87.

On Sunday at the Ithaca Diving Invitational, Sarah Stevens was 9th on both the 3m board (277.60) and the 1m board (307.00).

Men's Indoor Track & Field: Ranked 3rd in the Mideast

The men's indoor track & field team finished tied for 4th out of 11 teams at the Brockport Gold Eagle Multi & Invitational. The Pioneers scored 59 points in the event.

Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post) and Jacob Wadsworth (Dansville) led the team. Drew won the 1,000 in 2:41.11 and was 7th in the 800 (2:02.49). Wadsworth was 2nd in the heptathlon with 4,005 points to claim a spot in the Alfred State career top ten in his first collegiate multi event.

Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 4th (3,836) in the heptathlon and Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 5th (3,686). Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) was 4th in the weight throw (15.56 m), Collin Stauffer (LeRoy) was 5th in the triple jump (12.44 m) Michael Allender (Youngstown/Lew-Port) was 7th in the 60 m dash (7.29), and Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) was 7th in the 500 (1:17.05) while Devin Hall (Portville) was 8th (1:17.53).

In the 1,000, Matthew Connoly (Elmira Notre Dame) was 3rd in the while Joe Kretschmar (Phoenix, AZ) was 4th (3:14.01), and Conrad Kroll (Minisink Valley) was 5th (3:21.91).

Women's Indoor Track & Field: Ranked 7th in the Mideast

Wrestling: 1-6

Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) claimed the title at 184 lbs. at the Jamestown CC Open on Sunday. Almeter was one of four Pioneers that placed in the non-scoring event.

Almeter earned three hard fought victories to claim the title. He defeated Tim Collins (Brockport) 9-7 in the quarterfinals and then downed Bryce Rowe (Brockport) in the semifinals to advance to the finals. In the finals he defeated Jamestown's Cameron Page 9-4 to claim the title. Page is the #2 wrestler in the 184 lb. weight class in the NJCAA.

Mike Galton (Warsaw) and Ryan Mattison (Brockport) both finished in their weight brackets.

• Galton was 3-1 in the 157 lb. competition. He won 9-3 over Owen Balas (Gannon) and 5-3 over Spencer Head (Mercyhurst North East) to advance to the semis. In the semifinals he had a dominant tech fall victory 20-1 over Michael Phelps (Niagara CCC). In the finals he lost a tight 6-3 decision to Alex Farenchak (Gannon Unattached).
• Mattison was also 3-1 in the heavyweight bracket. He pinned Boaz Smart (Brockport) in 5:46, earned a 5-0 victory over Zach Reed (Niagara), and downed his teammate Kyle Fitzgerald 12-1 to advance to the finals. In the finals, he fell to Jake Peru (Unattached).

Galton won a pair of matches as Alfred State took on Brockport and Pitt Bradford in a Tuesday evening tri-match. The Pioneers were tripped up 43-6 by Brockport and lost a tight 27-16 decision to Pitt-Bradford. He earned a tight 3-2 decision over Zack Brown in the 157 lb. bout and a 20-3 victory over Daniel Shields.
