Men's Basketball: 11-10

The blue & gold were 2-1 this week. They couldn't overcome a slow start in a 77-68 loss at SUNY Delhi but earned two convincing home victories, 93-65 over Albany Pharmacy and 90-65 over St. Joseph (VT), over the weekend.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) led the team with 53 points and 33 rebounds on the week. Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) finished with 41 points and 26 rebounds, Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) connected on eight 3-pointers this week and averaged 13 points per game, and Owen Spencer chipped in 33 points, 25 rebounds, and 16 assists.

Lewis led the team with 23 points and 12 boards vs. Delhi, Gentile led with 18 points as five players finished in double figures vs. Albany Pharmacy, and Jordan led the team with 18 points vs. St. Joseph.

The Pioneers shot 44.4% from the field for the week, connected on 28 three pointers (33.7%) and out-rebounded their opponents 147 to 110.

Women's Basketball: 4-15

Delhi led 31-24 at the half but the Pioneers shot 45% (9 for 20) and outscored Delhi 20-13 to tie the game up at 44-44 heading into the final ten minutes. The Pioneers grabbed their first lead since the 1st quarter with a 6-2 run to start the quarter. The game went back and forth until the Pioneers broke a 54-54 tie with a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game away.

All five Pioneer starters finished in double figures. Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) led the way with 16 points, nine assists, and seven boards. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) scored 13, Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) had 12, and Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Kelley (Andover) rounded out the scoring with 10 points and nine rebounds. 

Western Equestrian: Reserve Hi-Point Team in AM Show

The Western Equestrian team wrapped up the regular season with a strong showing at Alfred University on Saturday. The Pioneers finished the AM show as the reserve hi-point team.

Alyssa Beardsley (Letchworth) was the reserve hi-point rider in the AM Show. She was 2nd in both the open reining and open horsemanship categories. Jennifer Cirigliano (Brewster) won in the beginner competition while Jamie Fredenburg (Fabius Pompey) won in novice. Jessica Bongard (Webster Thomas), Mackenzie Caletka(Vestal), Kathleen Crangdon (Webster Thomas), and Amber Laibe (Vestal) all finished 2nd in their respective categories in the morning.

Caylen Bedow (Fillmore) won in the afternoon in the advanced competition while Caletka (Novice) and Cirigliano (Beginner) were 2nd.

The Pioneers have 10 riders that have qualified for the IHSA Zone 2 Region 1 Championships on February 17th. 

Swimming & Diving: 

The swimming and diving team is preparing for the AMCC Championships which will be held next week at Penn State Behrend.

Men's Indoor Track & Field: 3rd place at RIT

The men's indoor track and field team continued their solid season with a 3rd place finish at the RIT Early February Invitational. The Pioneers scored 108.5 points in the event.

The relay teams led the way for the blue & gold. The 4x400 relay team of Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post), Austin Demberg (Minisink Valley), Matthew Connolly (Elmira Notre Dame), and Joe Kretschmar (Phoenix, AZ) won in 4:12.55 while the 4x200 relay team of Cameron Howard (Brockport), Collin Stauffer (LeRoy), Michael Allender (Lew-Port), and Jacob Wadsworth (Dansville) qualified for the ECAC's with a time of 1:35.68.

The Pioneers took four of the top five spots in the 5,000. Connolly was 1st (16:55.14), Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) was 2nd (17:40.33), Kretschar was 3rd (18:19.56), and Conrad Kroll (Minisink Valley) was 5th (19:49.89).

Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) won the weight throw with a toss of 16.59 m while Jonathan Banks (Cheektowaga) was 8th (12.13 m). 

Women's Indoor Track & Field: 5th at RIT

The women's indoor track & field team finished 5th at the RIT Early February Invitational. The Pioneers scored 56 points in the event.

Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 2nd in the 60 hurdles (10.00) while Marissa Sly (N. Tonawanda) was 4th (10.58). Brigman was also 5th in the high jump (1.46 m). Veronica Dailey (Addison) was 2nd in the 1,000 (3:26.93) and Molly Heaphy (West Hempstead/Long Island Lutheran) was 3rd ( 3:56.72). Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 4th in the 800 (2:49.55) while Katherine Watkins (Addison) was 5th (2:56.50). Katherine O'Buckley(Queens/Francis Lewis) was 8th in the 400 (73.71)

The 4x400 relay team of Betsy Butlak (Lake Shore), Frascella, and Sly, won in 5:20.46 while the 4x200 relay team was 5th in 2:01.81.

Wrestling: 10th at John Summa Invitational

The Pioneer wrestling team finished 10th at annual John Summa Tournament hosted by Baldwin Wallace. Three Pioneers advanced to the consolation semifinals.

Kyle Fitzgerald (Turin/South Lewis) was 4-2 in the heavyweight bracket. After falling in his opening match he rebounded with four straight victories. He won 8-1 over Nathan Scott (Ohio Wesleyan), defeated Boaz Smart (Brockport) 15-3, pinned James Kimbrough (Thiel) in 3:00 and pinned Tyler Brooks (Thiel) in 2:16. His day ended in the consolation semifinals.

In his debut on the team Owen Kissell was 3-2 in the 149 lb. weight class. After falling in his first match, Kissel rebounded with three straight pins. He pinned Cody Roland (Thomas More) in 2:21, Maxwell Bourque (Baldwin Wallace) in 55 seconds, and Liam Collins (Washington & Jefferson) in 1:52. His day ended in the consolation semifinals.

Mike Galton finished 3-2 on the day at 157. He defeated Rhett Roeder (Ohio Northern) 12-4 and then won a 3-2 decision over Kody Wagner (Wabash) to advance to the quarterfinals. He fell in the quarters but bounced back with a 11-2 win over Dylan Dolph (Ohio Northern). His day ended in the consolation semifinals.

Ryan Mattison (Brockport) was 3-2 with three pins at heavyweight. He pinned Jacob Obst (Wabash) in 51 seconds, Tyler Kassinger (Thomas More) in 2:55, and Mitch Lattuca in 2:37. Mitchell Lattuca (Lancaster) also won a pair of matches in the heavyweight bracket.  He won 9-0 over Devan VanVliet (Thiel) and pinned Connor McCubbin (Thomas More).
