Baseball: 6-7

The baseball team went 5-2 during the Florida portion of their spring trip. They defeated Lakeland (WI) 10-2 and 18-0, Plymouth State (NH) 12-10, Lasell (MA) 6-5, fell 3-0 to Coast Guard, and split a pair with NYU (W 8-2 and L 15-3).

Dan Woodward (Honeoye) had a big week for the Pioneers. He hit .400 (8 for 20) with a team high eight RBI. Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) also hit .400 with a homer and 5 RBI, Josh Laurie (LeRoy) hit .370 with 4 RBI, and Tim Holler (Brewster) and Mike Gibson (Schenectady) each drove in seven runs.

Garrett Mack (Avon) didn't allow a run in eight innings of work on the mound. He was 1-0 with three strikeouts and allowed just six hits. Jarrod Deaton (Newburgh Free) was 1-0 with a save and a 0.00 ERA (4.1 innings) as he was key in the split doubleheader sweep of Plymouth State and Lasell. 

Western Equestrian:

A trio of Alfred State riders traveled to Findlay (OH) to compete in the IHSA Western Semi-Finals over the weekend. Rachel von Hagn (Bath) led the way for the Pioneers.

von Hagn finished 7th in the advanced horsemanship competition. Brianna Lasecki (Newark) and Alyssa Beardsley (Letchworth) also competed but did not place.

Lacrosse: 1-3

Joe Johnson (Churchville Chili) recorded his second straight hat trick but the Alfred State lacrosse team couldn't get much going in a 22-3 loss at Farmingdale State (4-3).

Johnson scored a pair of goals in the 1st quarter and completed the hat trick in the 4th. AJ Soto (Churchville Chili) was credited with the lone assist in the game. In net, Matt Cobb (Churchville Chili) made 15 saves. 

Softball: 4-6

The softball team was 3-3 as they finished their trip to the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, FL. The Pioneers fell 11-5 to Lesley and 11-3 to Western Connecticut but finished strong with a 13-1 win over New Jersey City, a 7-5 loss in eight innings to Rockford, and a sweep of SUNY Canton (W 5-4) and Knox (W 15-7).

Marissa Varela (Egg Harbor Twp, NJ) was 9 for 18 with four doubles, a triple, and 13 RBI to pace the offense. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) hit .444 with a .773 on base percentage (12 walks and one hit by pitch). Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) collected 10 hits whiel Jamie Parente (Mount Sinai) was 6 for 14 and had a .609 on-base percentage.

As a team the Pioneers hit .307 with 46 runs scored and a .439 on-base percentage.

Fisher was 2-2 with a 4.20 ERA in 21.2 innings of work on the mound. She allowed just two walks and struck out seven.
