Baseball: 7-10, 1-3 AMCC

The hitting of Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) and the pitching of Garrett Mack (Avon) led the Alfred State baseball team to a split of a AMCC doubleheader at Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers won the nightcap 3-1 after falling to the Panthers 3-1 in the opener. A scheduled doubleheader vs. Pitt Greensburg was postponed on Saturday.

The Pioneers started off fast in the nightcap. Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin Perth) singled, Samuel Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) was hit by a pitch, and one batter later Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) hit a three-run homer to give Alfred State the early lead. Mack made that lead stand with a complete game three-hitter. He allowed an unearned run in the 7th inning but didn't allow the Panthers any closer. He walked five and struck out 11.

Johnson finished the game 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Pingitore was the only other Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4.

In the opener, Pitt Bradford got on the board first in the 3rd when they scored an unearned run. The Pioneers tied it up in the 5th on a RBI single by Dickerson to score Mike Gibson (Schenectady) who had led the inning off with a single. The Panthers took back the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-out single and added an insurance run in the 6th. The Pioneers had chances but could not capitalize to tie the game up. Pingitore was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits. He finished 2 for 4. AJ Gartland (Irondeqouit) allowed just four hits and one earned run in 4.2 innings but took the loss.

Lacrosse: 3-6

AJ Soto (Churchville) and Joe Johnson (Churchville) both registered eight points as the lacrosse team battled in three contests this past week. The Pioneers fell 22-6 to Cazenovia, 10-8 at Houghton, and 19-7 vs. SUNY Poly.

Soto and Johnson both recorded five goals and three assists on the week while Eric Passeck (Thomaston, CT) had three goals and four assists. In net, Matt Cobb (Churchville) made 47 saves.

Softball: 6-6

The softball team had the week off but get back to action this week with a pair of home doubleheaders on Thursday and Friday. They take on Pitt Bradford on Friday and Hilbert on Saturday.

Track & Field:

The track & field team opened up the outdoor portion of their season at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational. 

Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) and Jacob Wadsworth) led the way for the men. Kemsley was 2nd in the discus with a toss of 49.63 m and 8th in the hammer throw (45.76 m) while Wadsworth was 2nd in the high jump (1.89 m) and 9th in the 110 hurdles (17.24).

Zion Ponder was 3rd in the high jump (1.89 m) while Jesse Johnson was 5th (1.84 m). Ponder was also 4th in the triple jump (12.85 m)..Joe Kretschmar (Phoenix, AZ) was 8th in the 10,000 (38.38.98). The 4x400 relay team of Wadsworth, Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post), Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley), and Sirgorerio Thomas finished 4th in 3:39.80 while the 4x100 relay team of Wadsworth, Cameron Howard (Brockport), Michael Allender (Lewiston Porter), and Thomas finished in 5th (45.45).

Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 4th in the high jump (1.53 m) to lead the way for the women's team. Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 7th in the 3000 steeplechase (1:20.69), Marissa Sly (N. Tonawanda) was 11th in the 100 hurdles (17.79), and Katherine O'Buckley (Queens/Francis Lewis) was 14th in the 400 hurdles (1:20.69).
