 Cross Country: 

The cross country team had the weekend off. They resume their season on Saturday when they head to Houghton.

Football: 1-3

Alfred State couldn't get much going as they fell 55-6 at Brockport on Saturday. The Golden Eagles scored on their first three possessions and never looked back. The Pioneers scored their only points of the game when Anthony Allen (Staten Island/New Dorp) scored from one yard out after Bladimir Vargas (Manhattan/George Washington) recovered a fumble on a punt return. Elijah Rimpel (Queens/Bayside) led the way for the Pioneers with nine tackles while Rylie Van Fleet (Maine Endwell) had eight.

Men's Soccer: 0-7, 0-2 AMCC

The men's soccer team couldn't rally all the way back as they fell 2-1 to Penn State Altoona in a AMCC match at Pioneer Stadium

The Lions took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st half. 7:04 into the 2nd half, Jared Barlow (Penfield) got the Pioneers on the board with his first of the season. David Benson (Clifton Park/Shenendowa) picked up the assist. The Pioneers kept the pressure on the rest of the half, outshooting Altoona 9 to 4, but were unable to get the equalizer. Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima)  finished the day with seven saves in net for the Pioneers.

Women's Soccer: 0-5-1, 0-2 AMCC

Four different Pioneers found the back of the net as the Alfred State women's soccer team lost a wild 6-4 battle to Penn State Altoona on Saturday.

The Lions scored first but Brooke Scianna (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill) tied it up on a penalty kick. Annaliese Ziemann (Lancaster) made it 2-1 six minutes later when she scored her first of the season after getting set up by Alyssa Delaney (Hornell). Penn State Altoona scored the next three goals to take the lead before Maggie Meyer (Red Creek) found the back of the net after getting a pass from Ziemann to make it 4-3. After PSA made it 5-3, Abby King (Holland) cut the lead back to one with just over nine minutes remaining in the game when she scored after getting a pass from Angela Martone (Candor). The comeback was thwarted when the Lions scored in the 83rd minute to put the game out of reach.

Alfred State held a slight 17 to 16 shot advantage in the game.

Volleyball: 6-6, 0-1 AMCC

The volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday. They fell 15-25, 11-25, 20-25 in their AMCC opener vs. Pitt Greensburg but bounced back for a 18-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-20 non-conference victory over D'Youville.

The Pioneers started the day slow vs. Pitt Greensburg as they hit .048 in the contest and had seven service errors. Isabella Slocum (Hornell/Cal Mum) was a bright spot as she collected seven kills on eight attempts. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) finished with eight kills while Jordan McCoey (Horseheads) passed out 23 assists.

D'Youville used a run midway through the 1st set to take control and take the early lead. In the 2nd set, the Pioneers led 7-6 before going on to win the next six points to take control of the set to even the match up at 1-1. The 3rd set proved to be a wild back and forth affair. D'Youville led 15-9 and 20-13 before the Pioneers rallied to get back to eventually tie the set at 24. A few points later, the blue & gold were able to pull out the 28-26 victory. D'Youville led 17-10 in the 4th set before the Pioneers turned it on and raced all the way back. Perkins served for seven straight points in the rally.

Slocum continued her solid day with a team high 13 kills (.500 hitting percentage). Alyssa Fox (Letchworth) finished with 12 kills and 13 digs, Perkins had 10 kills and 19 digs, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) chipped in 14 digs. McCooey passed out 40 assists and Mya VanDuyne (Newark) chipped in seven kills.
