Men's Cross Country: 10th at Houghton

The men's cross country team finished 10th at the Houghton College Highlander Invitational on Saturday. Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post) was the top Pioneer finisher. He crossed the finish line of the 8k race in 66th (28:50.7). Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) was 67th (28:52.2), Matt Connolly (Elmira Notre Dame) was 70th), Austin Miller (Hornell) was 86th (30:11.2), and Jeff Jijy (New Hyde Park) rounded out the team's finishers in 109th place (33:47.9).

Women's Cross Country: 10th at Houghton

Sarah Rivet (Waterford/Shenendehowa) led the way as the women's cross country team finished 10th at Houghton on Saturday. Rivet finished the 6k course in 81st in 29:34.9 to lead the blue & gold. Betsy Butlak (Angola/Lake Shore) was 87th (30:41.7), Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 91st (31:00.2), Anna Hersom (Byron Bergen) was 99th (34:15.5), and Emma Taggart was 103rd (36:59.2).

Football: 2-3

The football team rushed for 388 yards as they defeated Keystone 34-13 in their final non-conference game of the season.

The Giants got on the board on their first possession but the Pioneers answered back with a drive of their own to take the lead for good and start a stretch of 34 unanswered points. Dashown Wilson (Bronx/DeWitt Clinton) capped the eight-play drive when he connected with David Carroll (Mastic/Center Moriches) on a six-yard pass play. After forcing a three and out, Wilson capped an 11-play drive with a two-yard run in the final minute of the 1st quarter. Neither team put any points on the board in the 2nd quarter as the Pioneers went into halftime with a 13-6 advantage.

Wilson scored his second of three rushing touchdowns on the day on the first drive of the 2nd half. He capped another 11-play drive with a one-yard run to make it 20-6. On the first play of the 4th quarter, Wilson hit Andrew Thomas (Bronx/Erasmus Hall) with a 21-yard pass to add to the lead. Wilson put the game out of reach and eclipsed the 200 yard rushing mark on the day with 7:07 remaining when he scored from 13-yards out with 7:07 left in the game. The Giants scored a touchdown in the final minutes to cap the scoring.

Wilson carried the ball 33 times for 211 yards and three scores. He also was 12 for 23 for 143 yards and two scores passing. Thomas led the receivers with seven catches for 92 yards and a score while Jake Palmer (Albany/Voorheesville) rushed for 85 yards on nine carries. Elijah Rimpel (Queens/Bayside) led the defense with five tackles while Rylie Van Fleet (Maine Endwell) finished with four solo tackles and three pass break-ups. Brockton Weist (Harpursville) had four tackles and forced a fumble inside the Pioneer redzone that was recovered by Kahmani McLeod (Bronx/St. Raymond's) in the 2nd quarter when the game was 13-6.

Men's Soccer: 0-9, 0-4 AMCC

The men's soccer team fell 3-0 at home to Medaille and 1-0 on the road at La Roche this week.

Nico Coria (Honeoye Falls Lima) was solid in net making nine saves in the game vs. Medaille. The Mavericks scored a goal in the 8th minute and then didn't score again until the final 12 minutes.

Coria made five saves vs. La Roche but the Redhawks scored the game winner in the 68th minute on a penalty kick.

Women's Soccer: 1-6-1, 1-3 AMCC

The Pioneers split a pair of AMCC contests this week. They defeated Medaille 4-3 in double OT and fell 2-1 at La Roche.

4:52 into the 2nd OT, Althea Prime (Cherry Valley - Springfield) scored on a long shot (37 yards) that snuck right inside the crossbar to lift the Pioneers to the victory over Medaille. Mac Congdon (Hornell) set up the shot with a drop pass.

Medaille jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 18 minutes of the game. Courtney Kline scored 11:55 into the game and Marissa Campbell scored on a long shot after getting a short pass on a corner kick by Sarah Deering 18:10 in the game. Alyssa Delaney (Hornell) started the rally in the final seconds (36 seconds remaining) of the 1st half. Her corner kick found the head of Grace Donovan (Elma/Iroquois) to make it 2-1 after 45 minutes. Annaliese Ziemann (Lancaster) tied it up in the 75th minute on a long free kick and the blue & gold took their first lead of the game 2:23 later when Hannah Shadduck (Warren Center, PA) scored after getting a nice set up pass from Abby King (Holland). With under a minute left the Mavericks tied it up and sent the game into extra time.

Delaney scored the lone goal vs. La Roche after getting a pass from Congdon. The Pioneers led 1-0 until the 73rd minute when the Redhawks tied it. They scored the game winner eight minutes later. Gretchen Hendrickson (Canisteo Greenwood) made six saves in net.

Volleyball: 6-8, 0-3 AMCC

The volleyball team came up on the short side of two AMCC games this week. They lost 3-1 to Pitt Bradford and 3-0 at La Roche.

Alfred State won the opening set 25-21 but Pitt Bradford rallied by winning the next three sets, 16-25, 16-25, 17-25 to take the AMCC victory. Isabella Slocum (Hornell/Cal-Mum) led the team with 11 kills. Alyssa Fox (Letchworth) finished with 10 kills and 13 digs, Jordan McCooey (Horseheads) passed out 29 assists, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) chipped in 10 digs.

The Pioneers lost two tight sets 24-26, 24-26 at La Roche and the Redhawks were able to finish the victory with a 18-25 victory in set three. Fox led the Pioneers with 15 kills and eight digs. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport) chipped in nine kills, McCooey had 25 assists, and Megan Gridley (Corning Painted Post) finished with a team high 11 digs.
