Men's Basketball: 0-2

The Pioneers opened up the 2019-20 season by playing in the Special Tee's Tournament in Alfred. The team lost a hard fought battled 73-65 to Clarkson on Friday at home and then were tripped up 88-61 by Cobleskill on Saturday at AU.

Josh Reding (Spencerport) led the team with 20 total points on the week while Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) finished with 19 points and 10 boards. Markel Jenkins (Elmira) had a solid collegiate debut and added 17 points and 16 boards.

Women's Basketball: 1-0

Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) was 5 for 5 (3 for 3 from three) as Alfred State outscored Wells 28-6 in the 4th quarter in their season opening 62-41 victory over the Express.

The Pioneers led for most of the game. They led 13-8 at the end of the 1st quarter and 27-18 at the half. The Express rallied in the 3rd, outscoring Alfred State 17-7 to take a 35-34 lead into the final quarter. The blue & gold was 12 for 15 from the floor (4 for 6 from three) in the final 10 minutes while they held Wells to just 2 for 11 shooting. 

Anderson and Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) both finished with double-doubles. Anderson had 16 points and 10 assists to go along with six rebounds and five steals. Pettit had 16 points and 12 boards. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) had nine points while Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) and My'ana Davis (Rochester/Greece Athena) both chipped in six.

Men's Cross Country: 38th out of 61 teams at Mideast Regionals

The men's cross country team finished 38th out of 61 teams that competed at the NCAA Mideast Regionals held at Lehigh University on Saturday. A total of 360 runners finished in the 8k race.

Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) capped his freshman season with a 172nd place finish to lead the Pioneers. He crossed the finish line in 27:53.5. Matt Connolly (Elmira Notre Dame) was 219th (28:45.4), Cooper Buckley (Wellsville) was 264th (29:53.2), Conrad Kroll (Westtown/Minisink Valley) was 273rd (30:24.1), and Austin Miller (Hornell) was 285th (30:56.0). Alfred State was competing at the NCAA Regional level for the second straight season.

Women's Cross Country: 45th out of 54 teams at the Mideast Regionals

The women's cross country team wrapped up the 2019 season with a 45th place finish at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals in Bethlehem, PA. 349 athletes from 54 different institutions competed on the 6k course.

Caitlin Caltagirone (Holland) led the women's contingent in the race with a 187th place finish. She crossed the finish line in 25:22.2. Katie Watkins (Addison) was 282nd (27:53.9), Sarah Rivet (Waterford/Shenendehowa) was 283rd (27:59.6), Kate Frascella (Franklinville) was 301st (28:54.1), and Betsy Butlak (Angola/Lake Shore) was 332nd (32:16.2).

Men's Swimming & Diving: 3-1, 1-1 AMCC

Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) and Matt Walker (Kenmore West) helped lead the men's swimming team to their third straight dual meet victory. The Pioneers earned a 136-112 AMCC win over Penn State Altoona.

Perry put himself on the record board with his performance in the 100 back. He set a new mark by winning the event in 54.41. He also won the 50 back in 25.40 and the 50 free in 23.13. Walker set a new NCAA era record in the 500 free and improved his 200 free record. He won the 500 free in 5:04.19 and finished 2nd in the 200 free in 1:49.35. Walker was also 2nd in the 200 IM (2:02.96).

Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chili) won the 1,000 free in 11:16.01 and was 2nd in the 500 free (5:24.39), Nate Miller (Gananda) won the 100 fly in 56.06 and was 2nd in both the 100 free (51.87) and the 50 fly (24.97), Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) won the 50 breast (28.82), and Stuart Yates (Naples) won the 100 breast in 1:06.12. Perry, Miller, Dale, and Walker combined to win the 200 medley relay in 1:42.06.

Women's Swimming & Diving: 1-3, 1-1 AMCC

The women's swimming team defeated Penn State Altoona 124-90 as they evened up their record in AMCC action (1-1).

Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) won the 50 back in 32.52 and the 100 back in 1:09.02. She was also 2nd in the 50 fly (29.96). Alina Kisluk (Hamburg) won the 1,000 free in 12:09.36 and was 2nd in the 500 free (6:00.17), Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) won the 200 free in 2:11.26 and was 2nd in the 200 IM (2:31.95), and Mikaela Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) won the 50 breast in 33.89 and was 2nd in the both the 100 free (1:00.54) and the 100 breast (1:17.16). The 200 free relay team of Kisluk, Sanyczuk, Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville), and Veronica Boller (Wales/Iroquois) won in 2:00.26 and the 200 medley relay team of Armstrong, Mikaela Snayczuk, Kelsey Lynch (Wellsville), and Sarah Stevens won in 2:03.81.

Wrestling: 2-1

The Pioneers won a pair of dual matches on Saturday as they made their home debut. The team defeated Keystone 33-21 and Ulster CC 42-13.

Owen Kissell (Alden) and Jacob DeWall (Waterloo) both picked up a pair of pins on the day. Kissell pinned Maurice Young (KC) in 1:21 and Jacob Studt (UCC) in 1:21. DeWall sealed the victory vs. Keystone with a pin of Cam Smith in 59 seconds and then ended the day with a pin of Diego Orellana (UCC) in 4:13. Jesse Johnson (Elmira) and Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) were both 2-0 with a pin while Harry Nice (Dundee) was also 2-0.
