Men's Basketball: 1-3, 0-1 AMCC

The Pioneers split a pair of games this week. They defeated Houghton 91-87 in an overtime thriller and then lost their AMCC opener 75-59 at Penn State Behrend.

Josh Reding (Spencerport) hit a huge three in the closing seconds to send the game into OT vs. Houghton. He led the team with 25 points while Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) and Markel Jenkins (Elmira) each added 20. Jenkins recorded his first double-double of his career with 20 points and 15 boards.

Gentile led the team with 22 vs. Behrend and finished the week with a team high 42 points. Jenkins finished the week with a pair of doubles-doubles finishing with 31 points and 25 boards. Reding added 31 points this week.

Women's Basketball: 1-2, 0-1 AMCC

The women's basketball team could not overcome big runs as they fell 67-51 to Houghton and 81-50 at Penn State Behrend.

Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) led the team with 30 points and 11 assists this week while Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) finished with 21 points and nine boards. 

Men's Swimming & Diving: 7th at Oberlin 

The men's swimming & diving team ended the 2019 portion of their season with a strong performance at the three-day Oberlin Invitational. The Pioneers finished 7th overall with 579 points and set several new NCAA DIII era records.

Westin Perry (Canisteo Greenwood) won two individual events over the weekend. He won the 100 back in 52.82 and the 200 back in 1:56.54. Perry also was 6th in the 200 free (1:47.62). Perry established new NCAA DIII era record in all three events.

Matt Walker (Kenmore West) improved his 500 free record with an 8th place finish (4:55.86) while Nate Miller (Gananda) established a new record in the 100 fly with a swim of 54.35. Walker was also 6th in the 200 IM (1:59.37) and 7th in the 400 IM (4:19.78).

The 800 free relay team of Walker, Austin Eckrich (Churchville Chili), Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA), and Perry finished 5th (7:20.11), the 400 free relay team of Miller, Perry, Walker, and Stuart Yates (Naples) was 5th (3:18.21), and the 200 medley relay team of Perry, Dale, Miller, and Walker finished 6th (1:38.59). All three performances established new records.

On the diving board, Austin Miller (Hornell) finished 2nd on the 3m board (345.50) and 4th on the 1m with 328.95 points. Ryan Jobe (Gananda) was 6th on the 1m with 249.40 points.

Women's Swimming & Diving: 9th at Oberlin Invitational

The women's swimming and diving team accumulated 303.5 points during the three-day Oberlin Invitational to earn 9th place.

Mikaela Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) led the team with a 13th place finishes in the 100 breast (1:13.34) and the 200 breast (2:43.08) and a 21st place finish in the 200 IM (2:24.90). Veronica Boller (Wales/Iroquois) was 17th (2:51.68) in the 200 breast and Payton Armstrong (Highland Mills/Monroe Woodbury) was 20th in the 100 back.

A trio of relays finished 9th as well. The 200 medley relay team finished in 2:01.24, the 800 free relay team finished in 8:38.83, and the 400 medley relay team finished in 4:34.44.

On the diving board, Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) was 7th in the 1m (268.30) while Sarah Stevens was 9th (259.70).

Wrestling: 2-1, 12th at NYS Collegiate Championships

Jacob DeWall (Waterloo) led the way as Alfred State competed at the NYS Championships held at Oswego. DeWall finished 6th in the heavyweight bracket. As a team, the Pioneers finished 12th.

After falling in his first match of the day, DeWall fought all the way back in the consolation bracket. He pinned Jacob Smith (Jamestown CC) in 3:31, defeated Anthony Oca (Brockport) 8-2, pinned Jaquan Johnson (Niagara CCC) in 1:21, and pinned Bryce Moore (Sullivan CC) in 1:22 to advance to the consolation semifinals to end his afternoon with a 6th place finish. DeWall was 4-2 with three pins on the day.

Cale Bartosch (Palmyra Macedon) was 2-2 at 149 and Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) was 2-2 at 174. Bartosch won 9-4 over Kole Taylor (Brockport) and 5-3 over Noah Torres in consolation bracket matches while Ilges pinned Amandip Deo (Brockport) in 4:02 in his opening match and then pinned Alijah Carter (Eastport South Manor) in a consolation bracket match.
