Pioneer Weekly Update: March 16th

The remainder of the 2019-20 athletic year has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Baseball: 6-12

The Pioneers played games in Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida during spring break and finished 3-9. The team picked up victories over Southern Virginia, Skidmore, and #21 Wooster.

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) had a huge week during the break. He was 19 for 44 with four doubles, a triple, three homers, and 20 RBI. He hit .432 with a .480 on-base percentage and a .773 slugging percentage. Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadabin-Perth) hit .381 with a team high 10 runs scored on the week while Justin LoTemple also hit .381 with two doubles, two homers, and 9 RBI. Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) also hit over .300 finishing 10 for 32 on the trip.

On the mound, Andrew Santobuono (Franklin/Unatego) made two impressive starts on the mound. He was 1-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 16.2 innings of work. He allowed 12 hits and two walks while striking out 10. 

Lacrosse: 0-2

The Pioneers fell in both of their games they played prior to the stoppage of the season. They fell 12-1 at Elmira and 20-0 at King's.

Matt Cobb (Churchville) made 30 saves in the pair of games in net while AJ Soto (Churchville) scored the lone goal of the season.

Softball: 5-5

The Pioneers finished their spring break trip with a 5-5 record. After falling in their first three games the blue & gold won five of their last seven contests. They defeated Curry 3-2, Anna Maria 4-0, Elms 11-1, RIT 7-5, and Nazareth 8-4.

Arianna Traugott (Elmira) led the way with a .407 batting average (11 for 27). She collected three doubles and five RBI. On the mound, she was 3-2 in 21.2 innings of work.

Krista Lovell (Addison) was second on the team as she collected eight hits while Marissa Varela (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) led the team with six RBI. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) tossed 34.1 innings this week and was 2-2. 

Track & Field: 

Jacob Wadsworth (Dansville) traveled to the 2020 NCAA Division III National Championships in Winston-Salem, NC but a day prior to the event the NCAA cancelled all winter and spring championships. Wadsworth is the first Pioneer ever to qualify to compete at the National Championships. He was to enter the competition with the season's 10th best performance in the heptathlon.
