Baseball: 12-14, 6-2 AMCC
The baseball team was 3-3 this past week and 2-2 in AMCC play. They swept Medaille (9-3 and 14-2), lost to St. John Fisher 9-6, lost a pair to Mt. Aloysius (9-6 & 6-5), and wrapped up the weekend with a 12-7 win over Elmira.
Matteo Avallone (Mahopac) had a big week on his way to being named AMCC Player of the Week. He was 11 for 24 with six doubles, two homers, and 12 RBI. Sam Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) hit .375 with 6 RBI, Mike Gibson (Schenectady) hit .333, and Jack Henby (Hornell) hit .316. The Pioneers hit .293 with 23 extra base hits (17 doubles, two triples, and four homers).
On the mound, Chris Baldwin (Patchogue) appeared in three games out of the bullpen and allowed just one hit in 5.1 innings of work. Christopher Mattoon (Elmira) continued his successful first year at Alfred State. He was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings pitched. Connor Hong (Gates Chili) and Lewis Pettit (Bolivar Richburg) each earned victories as well.
Men's Soccer:
The Pioneers finally were able to get their spring season started on Saturday. They lost a hard fought overtime battle with Medaille, 4-3.
Softball: 2-14, 0-8 AMCC
The Pioneers played four AMCC contests this past week. A pair of big 7th innings lifted Medaille to 10-4 and 11-2 victories on Tuesday and Mt. Aloysius was able to take a pair, 9-6 and 10-0, on Sunday.
Emma Smithers (Waterloo) led the Pioneers with a .455 batting average (5 for 11) with three RBI. Audrey Farrell (York/Notre Dame) was 6 for 14 with a pair of doubles and Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) hit .357.
Men's Outdoor Track & Field:
The men's track and field had a strong overall day at the Brockport Invitational. The Pioneers won four individual events and two relays.
Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester), Brian Clark (Bethpage), Edward Scroxton (Lakewood/Southwestern), Derek Walter (Lancaster) all won individual events. Bathgate won the 10,000 in 34:37.27, Clark the 1,500 in 4:27.15, Scroxton the 800 in 2:00.94, and Walter the 400 hurdles in 1:00.12.
The 4x100 relay team of Cameron Howard (Brockport), Shawn Rosa (Middletown), Zach Rudewicz-Nepokroeff (Williamsville East), and Esaias Brumfield (West Genesee) won in 45.12 while the 4x400 relay team of Corey Seymour (Dryden), Cameron Chambers (East Rochester), Scroxton, and Rosa won in 3:30.79.
Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) was 2nd in the 10,000 (34:59.14), Jesse Johnson was 2nd in the 110 hurdles (16.93), Davyn Gulbrandsen (Rotterdam/Mohonasen) was 2nd in the 400 hurdles (1:08.13), and Jeff Jijy (New Hyde Park) was 2nd in the 5,000 (19:13.33).
Women's Outdoor Track & Field
The women's track & field team was impressive this weekend at the Brockport Invitational. The team registered nine top-3 finishes in the event.
Alyssa Delany (Hornell) and Sarah Rivet (Waterford/Shenendehowa) won individual titles. Delany won the 100 hurdles in 16.70 while Rivet won the 400 hurdles in 1:12.32. The 4x400 relay team of Katherine O'Buckley (Queens/Francis Lewis), Isabelle Popoff (Cicero North Syracuse), Rivet, and My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) also won in 4:39.66.
Katie Watkins (Addison) was 2nd in the steeplechase (13:48.56), Davis was 2nd in the 400 (1:04.60) and the 4x100 relay team of Delany, Marina Miketish (Olean), Laura Walter (Lancaster), and Davis finished 2nd (52.82). Laura Ferris (Victor/Mercy) was 3rd in the 1500 (5:37.90), O'Buckley was 3rd in the 400 hurdles (1:14.38), and Chivonna Reed (Fairport) was 3rd in the high jump (1.42 m).
Marina Miketish (Olean) set a new school record in the heptathlon with 3,623 points. She finished 4th overall in the field of 11 athletes in the event. On day two of the competition, she scored 652 points by running the 800 in 2:33.32 and scored 438 points by registering a leap of 4.54 m in the long jump. Yesterday, in day one of the two-day competition, she scored 632 points in the high jump (1.51 m) and 619 points in the 100 hurdles (16.80). Her seven-event total of 3,263 points is the new top mark and breaks the previous record of 3,583 held by Amanda Penepent. Penepent established the record in 2000. Teammate Emma Taggart (New Windsor, MD) finished 5th in the competition and is now 3rd all time in school history with a total of 3,574 points. She scored 546 points in the 800 (2:42.37) and 456 points in the long jump (4.61 m). On day one she scored a high of 671 points in the 100 hurdles (16.36) and 598 points in the 200 (28.42).
