Wurstner Whacks A Pair of Doubles In Win

OLEAN, N.Y. – The Hawks from Hilbert College continued their winning ways and traveled another 90 minutes to host another home game at another Western New York College campus today.

Paul Wujek went 4 for 7 for Hilbert who dropped a 7-6 opening game to Alfred State before the Hawks came back to take a 5-4 night cap at St. Bonaventure University's turf field.

Burning through five pitchers in each game, Hilbert pulled out a split-decision for the second day in a row to improve to 4-15 overall.
A-State pushed two runs on board in the first inning and added two additional runs in the third.

Hilbert jumped ahead of the Pioneers in the bottom of the second inning when the Hawks grabbed three runs and then hopped ahead of the visitors again in the fourth with three more runs.

Alfred State responded with three runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead once more (7-6) and they held on to secure the game in the bottom of the seventh.

Daniel Christmann went 3 for 5 and hit a 2RBI single in the second inning.  Mark Anderson went 2 for 2 picking up a double before making it home off Christmann's single.

Logan Parachoniak went four innings on the mound and struck out five batters before handing off the ball.  Andrew Cartaginese made his third appearance today and earned his second strike out in the final inning of the game.

After a brief break to enjoy the warm weather, both teams got back to business.  A-State took an early 4-0 lead by the top of the 3rd inning.  The Hawks held tight defensively and did not allow any further Pioneer rallies while they woke their Hilbert bats up in the fifth and sixth.

Joshua Maier's RBI single knocked in Anthony Wurstner and a wild pitch allowed Paul Wujek to sprint home for the second run.

Chris Shriver's ground-out in the bottom of the fifth knocked in Maier for the third run and cut the score to 4-3.

Maier, again, hit an RBI single with bases loaded in the sixth to knot the score and Ryan Bonafede hit a sacrifice fly to left field with gave Wurstner time to tag and sprint home for what turned out to be the game winner.

Anthony Wurstner posed two doubles in the game, one in the first and the other in the fifth, come-from-behind inning.

Paul Wujek connected with three hits, scoring one run and Bradley Perrin went 2 for 3.

Matt Goraj faced 11 batters and struck-out two with three hits in the two innings pitched.  Kevin Moore was the fourth pitcher to take the mound and under his watch, the Hawks came back and earned Moore's first win of the season.  Justin Hulbert closed the game and picked up a save in the seventh inning.

Hilbert should return to AMCC play this week when they travel to Penn State Behrend on Tuesday, April 14.
