Hawks Split AMCC Series With Alfred State

ALFRED, NY – After having to reschedule their game against Pitt-Greensburg today because of field and transportation issues, the Hilbert College baseball team moved their next regularly scheduled AMCC game against Alfred State to today instead.

The Hawks vanned-it to Alfred State and split their series with the Pioneers, winning the opener, 7-5, before dropping the nightcap 11-5.

Treyton delaCuesta was one hit shy of the hitting the cycle, although his triple turned into an inside-the-park homer thanks to a throwing error by the Pioneers.  The junior 1B went 4-for-7, finished with 3RBI, 3 runs and one stolen base.

GAME ONE

The Hawks exploded with six 1st inning runs and added a final marker in the top of the 7th for the win.  A-State manufactured three runs in the bottom of the 5th and two more in the 6th but closed the game battling Derek Switzer who earned his second save of the season.

Zachary Crane (3-3) struck out three, and finished with three earned runs off 10 hits.  Switzer finished the game (1.2 IP) giving up just one hit and struck out two in the victory.

Ian Moran doubled to start the game and came home off a Connor Duck single.  Winfred Nelson's RBI single pushed Eric Flores home just before delaCuesta knocked a triple to left center and sprinted home after the left fielder committed a throwing error, setting a 5-0 score.  Ryan Perrin doubled to right field and scored Mathew Sokolski for the final run of the inning.

Hilbert stranded two runners in the 3rd after Jared Welnowski and Sokolski singled to get on base.

delaCuesta earned the solo hit in the 5th, stole third base and was thrown out at home on another steal attempt to close that inning with the third out.

Perrin singled to start the 6th but never made it home leaving the upcoming 7th inning punch to finish the day.

Nelson singled and moved to second base off a ground-out.  delaCuesta doubled to left field and knocked in Nelson for Hilbert's final run in the game.

GAME TWO

Alfred State built a 5-0 lead by the top of the 4th and added three more runs by the top of the 6th.  In that same time, the Hawks tallied one run in the 5th.

Hilbert scored a solo run in the 7th and made an attempt for come-back in the 9th putting three more runs in the book, but fell 11-5.

Tristan Aldinger went 2-for-5, knocked in one run and earned a stolen base to lead the Hawks who totaled seven hits in the game.

Moran went 1-for-2 with a double in the 5th to earn the Hawks second hit in the game and score Hilbert's first run.

Nelson remained at first in the 6th after he singled and Aldinger was moving around the bags in the 8th before the third out stranded him at third.

With bases loaded (delaCuesta single and back-to-back walks) Duck's RBI single scored one runner.  Chad Boldt was then hit by a pitch which sent Moran home for the game's 4th run.  After a quick pitcher change, Aldinger reached and scored Flores.

Henry Bowers (1-3) covered 2.0 innings with five hits and four earned runs in the loss.

Now that the temps are going to hit 60 degrees this week, the Hawks hope to host D'Youville College next Saturday, April 28 for senior day celebrations.  Hilbert (7-20, 4-8 AMCC) then closes their regular season schedule with a double header at McCarthy Park May 1 against Medaille and are waiting to secure a date for the make-up with Pitt-Greensburg.
