Cornell Earns a Pair of Honors

Alfred State sophomore pitcher Lucas Cornell (Alfred Almond) has been named the USCAA Pitcher of the Week and the Association of Division III Independents player of the week following a stellar performance on the mound.

Cornell tossed a no-hitter in the Pioneers 7-1 victory over Fisher on Sunday. He allowed three walks and an unearned run while striking out four to pick up his first victory as a Pioneer. Cornell also finished the week with two hits and three RBI at the plate. 

On the year, Cornell is 1-1 with a 3.46 ERA in 13 innings of work. He has allowed nine hits, five earned runs, and six walks while striking out 12. At the plate, he is hitting .294 with four doubles, and 5 RBI.

The Pioneers are slated to travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday and then travel to Penn State DuBois on Sunday.
