Late Runs Lift RIT

RIT used a 4-run 6th inning to erase a 3-1 deficit en route to a 8-5 victory over Alfred State on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 11-6 on the season.

David Zuber (Honeoye Falls) got the Pioneers on the board in the 4th when he hit a single to right center to score Cullen Franz (Cazenovia). Franz had tripled a batter earlier. In the bottom of the inning, Jason Schulz tied it up with a RBI double.

Thomas Shofi (Carmel) singled to left center in the 5th to give the PIoneers back the lead. Two batters later, Franz homered down the right field line to make it 3-1. Franz's homer was his 8th of the season.

In the decisive 6th inning, Will Gorman had a RBI single, Navada Waterman scored on a passed ball, and Phil Sammon hit a two-run double to left field.

Zuber collected a RBI single through the right side in the 7th to make it 5-4 but the Tigers got a RBI single by Schulz in the 7th and a two-run triple by Dom Scialabba in the 8th to build a 8-5 lead. 

Zuber collected a RBI fielder's choice, his third RBI of the contest, in the 9th but the couldn't get any closer.

Franz finished 3 for 4 with a RBI while Zuber was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI. Dan Woodward (Honeoye) also chipped in two hits. Lucas Cornell (Alfred Almond) started on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings allowing six hits and three earned runs.

Schulz was 3 for 3 for 2 RBI to pace the Tigers 12 hit attack. Brett Kjganich was 2 for 3 and Greg Blasi was 2 for 4. Nick Claver earned the win with two innings of two hit relief while Kyle Povlock pitched the final two innings to earn the save.

The blue & gold are back in action on Friday when they host Houghton. First pitch of the single 9-inning contest is at 4 p.m. (please note new start time).
