PIoneers and Hawks Split a Pair

Alfred State and Hilbert split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks won the opener 6-4 while Pioneers took the nightcap 9-2.

In the victory in the nightcap, the Pioneers pounded out 14 hits and Garrett Mack (Avon) tossed a complete game three-hitter. Mack allowed one earned run while walking five and striking out five.

Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) had a monster game finishing 3 for 3 with a pair of doubles, a triple, and 2 RBI. Collin Johnson (Alfred Almond) and David Zuber (Honeoye Falls Lima) were each 2 for 4 with a RBI while Thomas Shofi (Carmel) and Andy Pichardo (Queens/Academy of American Studies) were each 2 for 4.

The Pioneers scored three in the 1st and scored six in the 6th inning, after Hilbert had cut the lead to 3-2, to take full control of the game.

In the opener, Hilbert scored three in the 5th to rally from a 3-2 deficit. The Hawks stranded a pair of runners in the 7th to preserve the victory.

Shofi was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI to pace the Pioneers eight-hit attack. Pichardo was also 2 for 2 and Zuber finished 2 for 4 with a RBI.

The Pioneers are right back at it tomorrow afternoon when they tangle with Pitt-Bradford in a single 9-inning contest at 1 p.m.
