Cornell and Zuber Named to DIII Players to Watch List

Alfred State junior Lucas Cornell (Alfred Almond) and senior David Zuber (Honeoye Falls Lima) have been named to the Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA DIII Players to Watch list.

Cornell, a two-way player, was key last season at the plate and on the mound. He appeared in 31 games in 2017 and hit .289 with 10 doubles, 2 homers, and 20 RBI. On the mound he was 2-3 with a 3.83 ERA in 40 innings with 33 strikeouts. For his efforets he was named 2nd team All-Independent.

Zuber appeared in 32 games last year, primarily at 1B or DH, and hit .273 with four doubles, one homer, and 17 RBI. Following the season he was named to the USCAA All-Academic Team and to the All-Independent team. For his career he is a .268 hitter with seven doubles, two triples, three homers, and 33 RBI.

The Pioneers will begin their first season of competition in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) this year. First pitch of the 2018 season is slated for February 23rd when they take on Brockport in Virginia Beach, VA.
