Pioneers Wrap up Play In Virginia

The Alfred State baseball team held early leads in both halves of a split doubleheader but could not keep offense going as they fell 9-3 to Brockport and 6-2 to Ithaca on their second day of play in Virginia Beach, VA. The Pioneers offense was held to just six hits on the day.

Versus Brockport, the Pioneers got on the board with three runs in the 2nd inning. Mike Gibson (Schenectady) collected a RBI single, Dan Woodward (Honeoye) followed with a RBI single, and Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) capped the scoring with a sac fly to make it 3-0. The Eagles (2-2)  answered back with two in the 2nd and took the lead with three runs in the 4th. They added an insurance run in the 6th and three more in the 7th.

The Pioneers were held to three singles in the contest all coming in the 2nd inning. Austin Hall was 3 for 3 with 3 RBI to lead the Eagles 10-hit attack.

Pingitore gave the blue & gold a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning vs. Ithaca in the second game. The Bombers answered back in the bottom of the inning with four runs and made it 5-1 with a sac fly in the 4th. Danny Doran (Irondequoit) cut the lead by one with a solo homer n the 6th but Ithaca answered back with a run in the 7th. The contest was called due to darkness prior to the start of the 8th inning.

Ithaca (1-1) outhit the Pioneers 7 to 3 in the game and took advantage of 10 Alfred State walks.

The blue & gold will be back in action on March 6th when they travel down the road to Houghton for a 4 p.m. contest vs. the Highlanders.
