Laurie, Pingitore, and Woodward Collect Two Hits

Josh Laurie (LeRoy), Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth), and Dan Woodward (Honeoye) all had two hits as the Alfred State baseball team opened up play in Florida with a 14-3 loss to New York University in a game played at the New York Yankees Spring Training Complex in Tampa, FL.

The Violets scored four runs in the 1st before the Pioneers got on the board in the 3rd when Pingitore singled home Mike Gibson (Schenectady). NYU scored a single run in the 4th and put the game out of reach with six runs in the 5th. The Violets scored a single run in the 7th before Rafael Perozo (Bronx/St. Raymond) and Nick Geyer (Newburgh Free Academy) drew bases loaded walks. NYU capped the scoring with a pair of runs in the 8th.

Laurie was 2 for 4, Pingitore was 2 for 3 with a RBI, and Woodward was 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles.

Coleman Hendershot was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI to lead the Violets while Coletrane Tait and Isaac Martinez were each 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. NYU collected 17 hits on the day.

The blue and gold head down the road to Ft. Myers, FL to compete in the Gene Cusic Classic. They take on Bethel (MN) tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
