Pioneers Wrap up Spring Break Trip

The Alfred State baseball team could not overcome a slow start as they fell 15-3 to NYU in their final game of their spring break trip. The Pioneers were 5-4 on their trip and are now 6-7 on the year.

New York University scored five in the 1st, a single run in the 2nd, and two more in the 3rd to jump out to a 8-0 lead. Mike Gibson (Schenectady) got the Pioneers on the board in the 4th when he collected a RBI single. Moments later Dan Woodward (Honeoye) scored following a Violet balk.

NYU put any comeback chances away with five more runs in the 5th and added single insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings. Alfred State loaded the bases in the 9th and Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) drove in the final run on a fielder's choice.

Seven different Pioneers collected singles in the game. The top three in the NYU line-up finished 10 for 14 with 10 RBI.

The Pioneers are slated to be back in action next Saturday when they begin AMCC play with a doubleheader with LaRoche. First pitch in this home contest is slated for 1 p.m.
