Doran sets to swing

Doran and Johnson Homer vs. Oswego

Danny Doran (Irondequoit) and Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) hit homers as Alfred State fell at Oswego State in a non-conference doubleheader. The Lakers took the opener 9-4 and the nightcap 8-2 to improve to 22-8 on the year.

In the opener, Johnson collected a RBI double in the 1st to give Alfred State the early lead. Oswego answered with three in the 1st and two in both the 3rd and 4th innings. Doran connected on a three-run homer to left center to cut the lead to 7-4 but the Pioneers wouldn't get any closer. The Lakers scored two insurance runs in the 6th.

Johnson was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with a RBI. Doran's homer was his team high 6th of the season.

Johnson once again gave the blue & gold a lead in the 1st inning of the nigthcap. He connected on a two-run homer to left field, his 4th of the season. Oswego grabbed the lead for good with three runs in the 2nd, added a single run in the 4th and put the game out of reach with four in the 6th.

Andy Pichardo (Queens/Academy of American Studies) collected two of the Pioneers four hits. He finished 2 for 3.

The Pioneers head to the University of Rochester tomorrow for a 7 p.m. first pitch with the Yellowjackets. (please note change of venue and time)
