Pioneers Battle U of Rochester

The Yellowjackets got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st. Jack Henby (Hornell) cut the lead in the half when he homered to left cetner, his first of the season. A throwing error allowed the Yellowjackets to regain their two-run advantage in the bottom of the inning.

The Pioneers tied the game up at 3-3 in the 4th. Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin Perth) and Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) executed the double-steal and Dan Woodward (Honeoye) followed with a RBI single to score Pingitore.

U of R took the lead for good with two in the 5th and added an insurance runs in the 7th.

Johnson was the only Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4. 

Zach Miraz was 3 for 4 with a RBI to lead the Rochester 13 hit attack. Six different Yellowjackets finished with multiple hits. Trevor Van Allen threw six innings to earn the win while Brendan Shamieh got the final three outs to earn the save.

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they return to AMCC play to take on Mt. Aloysius. First pitch of a crucial road doubleader is at 1 p.m.
