The Alfred State Pioneers move to 0-10 after losing their doubleheader against the Washington College Shoremen on Saturday at Athey Park, in Maryland.

Game one: ASC 3, WC 11

The Pioneers recorded 6 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 1 error.

The Shoreman recorded 14 hits, 11 runs, 10 RBIs and 4 error.

Pioneer Leaders:

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs. 

What Happened:

Washington College scored two runs in the bottom of the first off a sacrifice fly and a single. They scored another in the second off a double and two more in the fourth off a home run and a double.

Owen Lansing (Lyncourt/Solvay) brought in the first run for the Pioneers in the top of the fifth with a ground out to third base, plating Jesse Kabat (Shohola, Pa/Delaware Valley) and putting Zachary Morse (Canandaigua) on third. Morse scored off a double to right center from Avallone.

The Pioneers recorded their third run in the top of the seventh when Avallone singled to second bringing Lansing home.

The Shoremen scored six more runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Pioneer Pitching:

Chris Baldwin (Patchogue-Medford) (L, 0-1) pitched 3 innings and allowed 7 hits, 6 runs, 4 walks and struck out 3.

Game Two: ASC 3, WC 7

The Pioneers recorded 5 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 3 error.

The Shoreman recorded 12 hits, 7 runs, 6 RBIs and 1 error.

Pioneer Leaders:

Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) went 1-for-4 with 1 RBI.

What Happened:

The Shoremen scored the first run during the bottom of the fourth with a single to third base with bases loaded.

The Pioneers tied the game in the top of the fifth off when Elijah Barinas (Bronx/St. Raymond) hit a sacrifice fly to plate Jack Curabba (Shohola, Pa/Delaware Valley).

Washington College scored three straight runs, one each in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning.

Alfred State scored twice during the top of the eighth. The first was a sacrifice fly out to center field by Avallone, bringing Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) home. The other run was a ground out to the pitcher by Brody Burdett (Scottsdale,AZ/Horizon) to plate Lansing.

The Shoremen scored one last run in the eighth.

Pioneer Pitching:

Ryan Bailey (Union Springs) (L, 0-2) pitched 6 innings and allowed 9 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks and struck out 4.

The Pioneers will play Southern Virginia in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 12 starting at 1 p.m.
