Pioneers Tripped Up By Asbury

The Alfred State baseball team lost 2-9 to the Asbury University Eagles in Wilmore, Kentucky on Monday evening to move to 0-11 overall.

The Pioneers recorded 7 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, and 2 errors.

The Eagles recorded 10 hits, 9 runs, 6 RBI, and 0 errors.

Pioneer Leaders:

Gavin Moore (Hilton) went 2- for- 2 with 1 RBI.

Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI.

What Happened:

Asbury had the first run during the bottom of the third with a homer to right center field.

Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) tied up the game during the top of the fourth with a fly out to inner field to plate Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon).

The Eagles went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. 

The Pioneers answered back with a run during the top of the fifth. Moore singled to center field plating Elijah Barinas (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond).

The eagles went on to score six unanswered runs with two each in bottom of the fifth, seventh, and eighth.

Pioneer Pitching:

Ryan Bailey (Union Springs) pitched 4.2 innings and allowed 7 hits, 5 runs, walked 1 and recorded 3 strike outs.

The Pioneers will play Transylvania at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
