Avallone Hits Seventh Home Run, Pioneers Win Streak Continues
The Alfred State baseball team recorded their third straight win after beating the St. John Fisher Cardinals 4-3 on Friday at Dugan Yard in Pittsford, N.Y.
The Pioneers (5-15) recorded 11 hits, 4 runs, 4 RBIs and 0 errors.
The Cardinals (6-7) had 9 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 1 error.
Pioneer Leaders:
Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) went 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs, including his seventh home run of the season.
Tyler Petery (Schwenksville,PA / Pope John Paul II) went 2-for-4 with a double.
What Happened:
Avallone started the Pioneers off with another two-run homer to bring in Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) for a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Fisher scored one in the second and two in the third for a one-run edge.
Mersmann singled to right field to plate Elijah Barinas (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond).
and Jack Curabba (Shohola, Pa/Delaware Valley) singled to left field to bring home Gavin Moore (Hilton) to take a 4-3 advantage in the top of the fifth.
The Pioneers defense held off the Cardinals for six innings to take the one-run win.

Jack Josephson (Penfield) (W, 1-1) pitched 7.1 innings and allowed 8 hits, 3 runs, walked 4 and struck out 8.
Josh Van Bramer (Fairport, NY) picked up the save after pitching 1.2 innings and allowed 1 hit and struck out 2.
The Pioneers open up conference play on Saturday, April 2 at Pitt.-Greensburg with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
