Baseball Dominant in Pair of Wins; Bailey Near Perfect

The Alfred State Baseball team traveled to Pitt.- Bradford for an AMCC doubleheader and won both games. In game 1 the Pioneers won game one 14-1 and game two 9-0. 

In game 1: 

Starting pitcher Ryan Bailey was perfect through 4 innings before allowing his first baserunner via walk in the fifth inning. In the last half for Pitt.- Bradford, Bailey gave up his first hit which eventually lead to the Panthers pushing a run across. Ryan Bailey's final stat line was a full 7 innings pitched, allowing 2 hits and striking out 4. 

The Pioneer offense exploded today, with 5 Pioneers recording multiple hits in the game. Elijah Barinas went 3-3 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Nick Serce, Owen Lansing, Devin Mersmann and Bryson Rigsby all tallied two hits. Serce and Tyler Petery led the team with 3 RBI's each. The Pioneers came out of the gates strong with 4 runs in the first inning. Alfred State put up 4 in an inning two more times in the 4th and 5th innings. 

In Game 2:

The Pioneers were held scoreless in the first inning before another 4-run inning put them ahead in the second. Owen Lansing and Bryson Rigsby both hit 2 RBI singles in the inning to bring in the Pioneer runs. Lansing tallied his third RBI with a solo shot in the 4th, extending the lead to 5-0. The final scoring inning for Alfred State came in the 5th when they yet again scored 4 runs in the inning. Jack Curabba hit a 2-RBI single that started the scoring in the inning. 

Christopher Mattoon started the game on the bump for Alfred State and went 7 shutout innings. Mattoon only allowed 3 hits and struck out 4. Cullen Haley and Brody Burdett both made their first appearances on the mound, with a shutout inning of relief for each. 

The Pioneers take the field again on Tuesday at home against Houghton. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
