Pioneers Season Ends. Fall to Hilbert

The Alfred State baseball team faced elimination today in the AMCC Championship tournament. They survived game 1 with a victory over 2 seed Penn.- St. Behrend 7-4. In the second elimination game of the day, the Pioneers fell to Hilbert 10-5 and were eliminated from the tournament. The season for Alfred State was the most successful in their NCAA history. The team amassed 26 wins and were crowned AMCC regular season champions. 
 
Game 1
The Pioneers started off strong today in the game 1. They scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning on a 2-RBI single by Bobby Sellers. Behrend made a comeback and took a 4-2 lead. The Pioneers answered with more runs and tied it in the 6th inning. Nick Serce hit a walk-off 3-run homerun in the 9th inning to advance the Pioneers to the 4 p.m. game. 
 
Game 2
The Pioneers started off hot again with a 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning. The Hilbert team amassed a comeback, their second on the weekend against Alfred State. The Pioneers scored a game tying run in the 5th with a hit by Jack Curabba to make it 4-4. The Hawks bats got hot in the late innings, scoring 6 runs to take a 10-4 lead. Alfred State could not mount a comeback, eventually falling 10-5.
 
All-Conference teams will be announced by the AMCC Conference office on Tuesday, May 16th.
