Scouting Alfred State:

  • Last time out: Kiegan Brown led the Pioneers with 81 yards rushing on 18 carries while Ronnie Clark  rushed for 61 yards on 19 carries. 106 of the Pioneers 182 total yards came on the ground in a 43-7 loss at Nichols.  John Lauretti had six tackles while Kyle Backert and Brandon Davis each had five tackles.

  • Alfred State collected 19 first downs last week but was only 4 of 12 on 3rd down conversions. The team was also slowed down by turnovers and sacks last week.

  • Kiegan Brown has had two solid performances in a row and had a season high 81 yards last week. Ronnie Clark has been steady and leads the team with 282 total yards and three scores (70.5 yards per game).

  • The passing attack for the Pioneers has struggled the past two weeks and will look to rebound vs. the Bulldogs. The Pioneers have passed for under 100 yards in each of the last two games. Both Dashown Wilson and Darrius Nichols saw time last week under center.

  • John Lauretti continues to lead the defense. He led the team with six tackles. Kyle Backert has his best day as a Pioneer finishing with five tackles.

  • The blue & gold have only scored three points in the 1st half all season. The team has struggled to capitalize on their scoring chances in the 1st half and will need to put some points on the board early this week vs. Dean.

  • The defense will need to stop the Bulldogs rushing attack. The Bulldogs had a breakout rushing day last week vs. Becker.

  • Creating more big plays and limiting big plays the defensive and specials teams will be key to success vs. Dean. The Pioneers let up two long touchdowns plays last week and has lost the turnover battle in each of the last two games.

  • Dean is one of Alfred State's longest rivals. Both teams used to be members of the Northeast Football Conference and both teams have transitioned from the NJCAA to the NCAA DIII. This is the 19th meeting between the two programs.

Scouting Dean:

  • Last time out: Dean College ran for more than 200 yards, had five interceptions, and scored 36 unanswered points on their way to a convincing 42-15 win over Becker College in non-league football action on Saturday afternoon. Terrell Watts was an efficient 10-for-16 passing for 170 yards and a pair of scores, with Errol Breaux serving as the recipient for most of that yardage, hauling in four balls for 135 yards and two scores. DeAndre Grange ran for a career-high 116 yards on 28 carries to go along with two touchdowns, while Ki'Sean Bullard buoyed by his long touchdown run, totaled 105 yards on the ground on just four carries. Defensively, Dean had five interceptions by five different players. In addition to an interception, Shannon Moxey had six tackles, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Nicholaus Grimaldi ended with a game-best 11 tackles, while Khoury Simmons totaled eight stops.

  • Dean swept the ECFC Weekly Awards last week. Errol Breaux, DeAndre Grange, and Shannon Moxey were all honored for their outstanding performances against the Hawks.

  • DeAndre Grange rushed for 116 of his 254 yards this season last week. He has been the workhorse for Dean as he has 77 of the teams 142 rushing attempts.

  • Defensive backs Nicholaus Grimaldi and Malik Brown led the team in tackles. The defense has also intercepted 11 passes in their first four games.
