Long Records another 100-yard Receiving Game

The Alfred State football team dropped a 55-14 contest to SUNY Maritime in front of a jubilant homecoming crowd. In the contest, Jalen Long (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) recorded his 4th 100-yard receiving game in the contest.

The Privateers opened the game with a strong offensive showing, jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter via a three-yard touchdown run from Brandonn Drumgole, and a connection from Thomas Wright to Christian Castle for an eight-yard touchdown.

The Pioneers responded quickly with an eight-play, 71-yard drive, capped by a 50-yard touchdown pass from Dashown Wilson (Bronx/DeWitt Clinton) to Long, cutting the Privateers lead to 14-7.

Wright connected with Brandonn Drumgole with a 16-yard pass to make it 21-7 at the half. The Privateers came out of halftime and put together three scoring drives including a pair of scores nine-seconds apart to gain a 42-14 lead.  Wright 10-yard run, Castle 40-yard pass from Drumgoole, and Drumgoole 21-yard pass from Wright.

On the second play of the 4th quarter, Wilson connected with Bladimir Vargas (Washington Heights/Law & Public) on a 21-yard scoring pass to get the blue & gold back on the board.

The Privateers put the game away with a pair of 2-yard runs (Joe Butterworth & Christian Schiavone) in the final five minutes to cap the scoring.

The Pioneers were led offensively by Long, who caught 6 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Wilson completed 11 of 24 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Wright finished 21 for 26 for 219 yards and three scores. Castle caught six passes for 97 yards and two scores while Drumgoole had six catches for 79 yards and two scores. Butterworth led the running attack with 135 yards and a score on seven carries.

Defensively, Anthony Allen (Staten Island/New Dorp) had seven total tackles for the Pioneers. Kyle Backert (Lancaster) and Chris Plummer (Central Islip) both had six tackles, including one for a loss. Michael Zimmerman (Canandaigua) finished the day with five tackles and an interception.

Calvin Tanguay led Martime (3-2, 1-1 ECFC) with six tackles and a sack. Karl Riek and Liam Bailey both had five tackles.

The Pioneers are back in action next saturday when they take on Husson at Pioneer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.
