Lauretti Shines in Senior Bowl

Alfred State senior defensive end John Lauretti (Seaford) shined as he earned Defensive MVP honors at FAF D1-FCS Senior Scout Bowl last Saturday afternoon. Lauretti played on the North squad that consisted of NCAA FCS, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III athletes.

Lauretti finished the contest, held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, SC, with six total tackles and three sacks. He also had a pass deflection en route to being named the Defensive MVP.

The game was a culmination of a week of practices and meetings for Lauretti and his teammates in front of not only his coaching staff but scouts from the NFL and the AFL.

Lauretti had an exciting week and is ready to continue to push for new opportunities to continue to play. "The practices were a big transition at first because of the speed and size of the other guys participating. I had to adjust and I was able to play up to my ability in the game. Immediately after the game I talked with the Arena Football League and they took my information. As of now, I will next be playing in the HBCU Spirit of America Bowl in Virginia in January."

This season, Lauretti capped his career with 70 tackles (32 solo) and 8.5 sacks (5.5 in the final two games). He recorded 17 tackles for a loss of 80 yards, forced three fumbles, and recovered one fumble. He finished his four-year career wearing the blue & gold with 260 total tackles and 20.5 sacks. Lauretti has been named All-ECFC 1st team the past two years.
