Van Valkenburg and Van Fleet Named 2nd Team All ECAC

Alfred State senior offensive linemen Sam Van Valkenburg (Sherman) and freshman Rylie Van Fleet (Maine Endwell) have been named to the All-ECAC postseason 2nd team.

Van Valkenburg, who was named 1st team All-ECFC earlier in the postseason, started in all ten games for the blue & gold. During his four year career at Alfred State he rarely missed an offensive play. He was key in the improvement of the offense. The Pioneers were 2nd overall and 2nd in the ECFC by averaging 176.1 yards per game on the ground. The team also averaged 23 more yards per game overall and scored eight more points per game in 2019.

Van Fleet had an impressive first year wearing the blue & gold. He led NCAA DIII and the ECFC with 22 pass break-ups. He also led the team with 51 total tackles (44 solo) and recorded an interception. For his solid play he was named a 1st team All-ECFC defensive back. He was also named honorable mention as a return specialist. He was accumulated 196 yards on nine punt return attempts including a 75-yard return for a touchdown vs. Maritime.

Alfred State finished the 2019 season 4-6, a three win improvement from the 2018 year.
