2022 Season Begins with a Win

The Alfred State football team opened their 2022 season with a win. Playing the Misericordia Cougars, the Pioneers won with a score of 17-14.

The first points were put up by Alfred State, coming from a 25-yard field goal in the first quarter by Dawson Fontaine (Bensalem, PA/ Bensalem). In the second quarter ASC put up a touchdown, capitalizing on a holding penalty, with a three-yard touchdown run by Jake Palmer (Albany, NY/ Voorheesville) making the score 10-0.

Misericordia came back with a touchdown of their own in the third, making it a 10-7 game. The Pioneers then answered, with another rushing touchdown, increasing the gap 17-7. The Misericordia offense answered again, with a passing touchdown to make it 17-14.

A team leading 14 tackles by Nuhsar Mike (Syracuse, NY/ Leadership Academy) led the Alfred defensive side, along with help from Max Gomes (Delaware, NY/ Mahopac) who recorded an interception.

An interception by Anthony Allen (Staten Island, NY/ New Dorp) with just above 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, took the sails out of Misericordia, ending their comeback effort.

Josh Graham (Hilton, NY/ Hilton) - 16 attempts, 58 yards rushing

Roman Napoleon (Allegany, NY/ Allegany)- 5 receptions, 83 yards

The Pioneers have the first win under their belt and will look to keep the momentum rolling in game two of the 2022 season. Alfred State is slated to play at 6 p.m. at Pioneer field against the University of Rochester.
