Pioneers Put Up 40 Points in Win

The Alfred State Football team won in a 42-33 game against Defiance College.

Thanks to a steady rushing attack and some timely defense, the Pioneers came out on top, in what was a tightly contested game.

Alfred State was down 16-14 at the half. They scored two touchdowns by way of a 20 yard run by Rafael Class (Bronx, NY / Dewitt Clinton) and a 39 yard touchdown pass from Justin Horvath (Grand Island, NY / Grand Island) to Roman Napoleon (Allegany, NY / Allegany Limestone).

In the third quarter the Pioneer defense held the Yellowjacket offense to only three points. Silas Engalauf (Spencerport, NY / Spencerport), Colin Hebbard (Clinton, NY / Clinton) and Amari Cook (Bellport, NY / Bellport) led the defense, all with 11 tackles. Cook forced a fumble on the second of his two sacks, leading to the Pioneers gaining possession deep in Defiance territory.

The Pioneers started to pull away in the fourth quarter, scoring three touchdowns. A  seven yard rushing touchdown by Jake Palmer (Albany, NY / Voorheesville) was the first of the three. Ben Ba (Harlem, NY / Park East) followed with a touchdown reception, and Josh Graham (Harlem, NY / Park East) scored a 47 yard rushing touchdown, to put the game on ice.

The Pioneer football team is back in action on October 1, when they travel to Anna Maria.
