Pioneers Win in First ECFC Battle

The Alfred State Football team won a close game against Anna Maria 30-25. After going into halftime up 10-6, the Pioneers fell behind in the third quarter, before coming back to win in the fourth.

A 27-yard field goal by Dawson Fontaine (Bensalem, PA / Bensalem) and a 2-yard Josh Graham (Hilton, NY / Hilton) touchdown run in the second quarter accounted for the ten Pioneer points in the first half.

Alfred State scored three touchdowns in the fourth, two from running back Jake Palmer (Albany, NY / Voorheesville) who has reached the end zone in four out of five games this year. With three minutes left in the game, the Pioneers put the game away, with a 73-yard touchdown pass from Justin Horvath (Grand Island, NY / Grand Island) to Roman Napoleon with three minutes remaining in the game.

Napoleon had a career high 188 yards receiving on the day, as he continues to be a force on the Pioneer offense, he is now averaging 117 yards per game. 

The Pioneer defense had a strong showing today, Jeremiah Nixon (Staten Island, NY / Curtis) led the defensive front today with 11 total tackles. Rylie Van Fleet (Endwell, NY / Maine Endwell) had two interceptions and Christopher Howard (Eastchester, NY / Eastchester) and David Harrell (Brooklyn, NY / Fort Hamilton) each forced a fumble. 

The Alfred State Football team is back home next week, as they face off against Keystone in a 1 p.m. match at Pioneer Stadium.
