Cold Shooting Haunts Pioneers

The Alfred State men's basketball team couldn't get the offense going and fell 74-51 to Fredonia on Tuesday evening. The Pioneers shot only 26.3% from the field in the contest.

Fredonia jumped out to a 11-4 lead to start the game and never gave the lead up. The Pioneers cut it to 11-10 but the Blue Devils responded with a 14 to 2 run and went into halftime with a 36-21 lead. Alfred State could never put together a run in the 2nd half to get back into the contest.

Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Charlotte) led the blue & gold with 13 points and nine boards off the bench while Josh Miller-LaBar (Groton/Lansing) chipped in 11. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) finished with eight points and five assists. 

Ian Helps and Jonathan McDonald both recorded double-doubles for Fredonia. Helps finished with 19 points and 13 boards while McDonald had 14 points and 12 boards. Isaiah Ice added 14 and Keith Ruiz came of the bench and had 10.

The Pioneers were 20 for 76 from the field, 4 for 22 from three, and 7 for 15 from the foul line while Fredonia was 26 for 56 from the field, 4 for 16 from three, and 18 for 30 from the line. The Blue Devils held a 59 to 42 advantage on the boards.

The Pioneers are right back on the court on Thursday when they host SUNY ESF for a 7 p.m. contest.
