Twelve 3's Lifts Delhi

SUNY Delhi connected on twelve 3-pointers as they defeated Alfred State 78-67 on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos were 12 for 32 in the contest beyond the arc.

The game started off slow for both teams. Alfred State led 8-7 eight minutes into the game before the Broncos went on a 25 to 9 run to take a 32-17 lead with 5:25 remaining in the half. Delhi led by as many as 18 in the 1st half and went into the break with a 38-23 lead. The blue & gold couldn't get within 10 points in the 2nd half and Delhi pushed the lead all the way out to 25, 75-51, with 5:08 remaining. The Pioneers outscored the Broncos 16 to 3 in the final 5:08 of the game but could not get any closer.

Four Pioneers finished in double-figures on the day. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) led the way with 14 points while Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) came off the bench and finished with 13 points and eight boards. Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) chipped in 11 and Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) had 10. 

The blue & gold shot 37.9% (22 for 58) from the field and only 12.5% (2 for 16) from three. The Pioneers were 21 for 35 from the line and held a 45 to 37 advantage on the boards. The team was slowed down by 12 first half turnovers and 18 total turnovers.

William Knight hit seven 3-pointers and led the Broncos (12-11) with 23 points. Payton Dean finished with 17, Jordan Fragale had 14, and Carlos Ithier chipped in 10. The quartet of players accounted for 64 of the team's 78 points. Delhi shot 40% from the field, 37.5% from three, and hit 14 of 16 foul shots.

The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel down I-86 to battle Pitt-Bradford. Opening tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
