Five Score in Double Figures in Victory over Panthers

Five Pioneers scored in double figures as the Alfred State men's basketball team improve to 12-6 on the season with a 82-64 victory at Pitt-Bradford on Wednesday evening.

Alfred State trailed 11-9 with 15:13 remaining in the 1st half before going on a 18 to 5 run to take the 27-16 lead. At the half, the blue & gold led 39-29 but the Panthers cut the lead to 53-50 with with just under ten minutes remaining. The Pioneers responded and outscored UPB 29 to 14 the rest of the way to seal the victory. 

Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) led all scorers with 19 points. Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) chipped in 14 points off the bench, Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) finished with 12, and the duo of Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) and Tyler Elliott (Perry) both chipped in 10. 

The Pioneers shot 45.7% (32 for 70) from the field and hit 69.6% (16 fof 23) from the foul line. On the boards, the blue & gold held a 45 to 37 advantage.

Christian Perkins and Dylan Niedermeyer both scored 13 points to lead the Panthers (2-16). UPB shot 37.1% (23 for 62) from the field, 33% (5 for 15) from three, and 68.4% (13 for 19) from the foul line.

The blue & gold are in action again on Saturday when they host Five Towns College at 1 p.m.
