Pioneers Blast Past Sound

The Alfred State men's basketball team shot 55.1% from the field and held a 57 to 27 advantage on the boards as they blasted past Five Towns College 102-64 on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 13-6 on the year while the Sound fall to 11-6.

Alfred State led throughout the game and held a 21-16 lead with 11:51 remaining in the 1st half. The Pioneers then went on a 24 to 12 run to take full control of the game. At half they led 50-31 and pushed the lead to as many as 39 points in the 2nd half.

Six Pioneers finished in double-figures on the day. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) had a big day finishing with 16 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. Josh Miller-LaBar (Groton/Lansing) hit three 3's and had 15, Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia) finished with 14 points and eight boards, and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds. Ben Deming (Waterloo) also finished in double-figures with 11. Tyler Elliott (Perry) had seven points and 10 boards and Tyrone Freeman (Bronx/Wings Academy) added seven.

Alfred State was 38 for 69 from the field, 8 for 20 from three, and 18 for 31 from the line. The team held a 19 to 8 advantage on the offensive boards and scored 26 second chance points.

Alexis Pena led the Sound with 17 points while Kyree Sawyer finished with 15. Corey Jacques and John Francois both added nine points. Five Towns shot 34.9% from the field, 23.5% from three, and 76.2% from the foul line.

The blue & gold are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Hilbert for a 6 p.m. contest with the Hawks.
